Bruker Applied Markets division has an immediate opportunity for an Applications Scientist based in greater Boston area. The successful candidate shall champion the Bruker range of Mass Spectrometry products focused on forensic, food, environmental, industrial, and other types of small molecule analysis through expert scientific support of sales activities, demonstrations, collaborative work, and presentations. He or she shall help to create an unrivalled reputation for the company through training and support of existing customers and help to drive product commercialization through technical marketing activities and promotions.

The successful candidate will be an expert in both High-Resolution Accurate Mass (HRAM) and Nominal Mass Spectrometry (MS), Liquid and Gas Chromatography (LC/GC), as well as ESI and APCI ionization techniques. The successful candidate will report to and work closely with the Commercial Director. The position involves travel within the USA and abroad.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver high quality pre-sales demonstrations of Bruker Mass Spec solutions including both hardware and software with focus on forensic, food, environmental, and industrial analysis.
  • Perform analyses of samples submitted by prospective customers, prepare demo reports, and present results.
  • Maintain the demo lab instruments at the highest level of performance and in constant readiness by monitoring their critical parameters, performing routine maintenance, and timely requesting service support as necessary.
  • Provide expert scientific support for sales staff and assistance for customers, including site visits and online communications.
  • Lead the scientific work with prospective and existing customers to generate interest, build relationships, develop application specific methods and justifications for purchase.
  • Assist in the post-installation of new Mass Spec systems by providing on-site or virtual customer training and application specific method development support.
  • Develop key applications for Bruker products in the areas of forensic, food, environmental, industrial, and other types of small molecule analysis to be used for posters, presentations, and marketing collaterals.
  • Ensure continual awareness of developments in forensic, food, environmental, industrial, and other types of small molecule analysis by attending scientific conferences and trade shows, as well as monitoring professional literature and publications.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • PhD in Chemistry, Analytical Science or equivalent experience in industry.
  • A wide understanding and knowledge of forensic, food, environmental, industrial, and other types of small molecule analysis.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience with Mass Spec instrumentation.
  • Considerable expertise with GC and HPLC, as well as ESI and APCI ionization techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with DART and other ionization techniques is desirable.
  • Hands-on experience with Ion Mobility Spectrometry is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of Bruker instruments and software is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for effective work with customers and in-house personnel.

Skills

Computer Skills:

  • Experience with Microsoft Office is essential. Experience with Bruker software packages for Mass Spectrometry is highly desirable.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Current valid driving license and passport.
