About SOMAH

GRID Alternatives was selected by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) in March 2018, as part of a team of leading CA nonprofits, to administer the Solar on Multifamily Affordable Solar Housing (SOMAH) program. The SOMAH program is the largest investment of dollars into low-income solar to date (up to $1B through 2030). It will provide incentives to solar projects in qualifying affordable multifamily properties throughout the state, while ensuring direct economic benefits to low-income tenants and creating workforce development opportunities through local hiring initiatives.

The Opportunity..

GRID Alternatives is seeking an exceptional program manager for the Solar on Multifamily Affordable Solar Housing (SOMAH) program to support workforce development. The successful candidate will be a member of GRID Alternatives’ Program Administration Department and will be responsible for coordinating with other internal departments as well as external partners and program participants to support the implementation and evaluation of SOMAH’s job training and workforce development activities. All GRID Alternatives employees will be responsible for advancing the organization's equity, inclusion, and diversity work and understand that this can only be achieved within a framework of social, economic, and environmental justice.

The SOMAH Program Workforce Development Manager will:

  • Support participating solar contractors in meeting the job training requirements:
  • Help monitor SOMAH project pipeline and provide 1:1 support for SOMAH contractors in hiring SOMAH job trainees, including developing a job training plan and technical support with the SOMAH Job Training Portal.
  • Lead, plan, execute, and market webinars and other programming to support contractors in navigating SOMAH’s job training requirements
  • Track program participant compliance with job training requirements
  • Help develop and administer workforce programming and resources for job seekers, job trainees, job training organizations and contractors that focus on safety, hiring support, and career development and skills-building.
  • Help develop, organize, and market career development programming and resources (ex: resume workshops, mentorship connections, and online solar training courses)
  • Lead data management, analysis, and workforce program evaluation:
  • Coordinate the administration, data collection, and evaluation of job training surveys for job trainees, job training organizations, and solar contractors
  • Carry out tasks required for the tracking and reporting of key performance indicators (KPIs) and program data related to SOMAH’s job training and workforce development activities
  • Develop and implement surveys and evaluation tools for collecting feedback from solar contractors and employers on workforce needs and job training experience
  • Provide support for marketing, education, and outreach activities:
  • Support content development for a variety of marketing channels including: social media, outreach events (webinars, workshops, etc), webpages, newsletters, media opportunities, conduct and coordinate interviews for case studies.
  • Job Training Organization (JTO) outreach & support:
  • Outreach to eligible JTOs in key areas, like tribal, disadvantaged communities, rural and remote areas
  • Support SOMAH Admin staff in managing the JTO TF: tracking and planning the implementation of SOMAH JTO Task Force recommendations, including resource and content development and program changes
  • Perform other SOMAH Program Administrator tasks as necessary, including but not limited to tasks for financial tracking and invoicing, workforce development activities, stakeholder engagement, and events planning.


What You Need To Bring To This Role...

  • Experience: Minimum 3 - 5 years of experience relevant to the position responsibilities and scope, with a proven track record of success
  • Task and project management: Experience managing multiple projects at once -- effectiveness at organizing, prioritizing, and completing assigned tasks in a timely manner in coordination with internal and external teammates; ability to adapt to changing priorities and workloads
  • Communication: Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Quantitative: Strong data collection and analytics skills
  • Client/participant support: Ability to effectively communicate program requirements and support diverse audiences, including external partners, job trainees, and solar contractors, with navigating website and program resources
  • Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity: Be able to advance the organization's equity, inclusion, and diversity work.


It would be great if you also had...

  • 4+ years of project/program management experience
  • Experience with ClickUp, Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Excel, Salesforce, or other CRM software
  • Experience with customer or client support, particularly with website or technical support
  • Experience marketing programs and services
  • Experience with administration and/or marketing of statewide or municipal solar, energy-related, or workforce development programs
  • Experience working with or providing services to underserved communities
  • Familiarity with or interest in environmental and/or climate justice
  • Direct experience with multifamily affordable housing or renewable energy job promotion, either through lived experience or professional experience
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Experience teleworking and working with remote teams


Where you will sit and the places you may go…

This is a remote position, preferably in California. This position may rarely require up to 25% out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects such as company-wide celebrations, team building exercises, etc. Availability to work nights and weekends may very rarely be required.

GRID Alternatives may provide vehicles for work travel and/or travel reimbursement for personal vehicle use. In this instance, applicants must hold a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.

This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary pay commensurate with experience within the pay band ($70k-$80k annually), plus the benefits below.
