PURPOSE OF POSITION


The Manager of Combo Retirement Plan Consulting is a role designed for a motivated, detail-oriented retirement plan professional with strong leadership skills. Within the Cash Balance team, the Manager will oversee a team of combo retirement plan consultants (CRPC) and be responsible for managing workflow and ensuring deadlines, service, and compliance expectations are met. This role requires in-depth knowledge of both Cash Balance and 401(k) plans and the ability to coach and develop staff. 


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a team of 8-12 combo retirement plan consultants (CRPC)
  • Motivate, lead, and support team members to provide excellent customer service while meeting internal and regulatory deadlines
  • Interface with Actuarial Analysts and Analysts on a regular basis to coordinate continuous and holistic process improvement Clearly document CRPC processes and update as needed
  • Resolve and provide solutions for internal questions and issues that arise within team
  • Communicate with clients, financial advisors, CPAs, and other professionals on escalated service or compliance related items regarding the team of consultants. 
  • Develop procedures that will improve efficiency between CRPC’s, and Actuarial staff and make recommendations for changes, and assist in implementing changes within the team
  • Train and mentor CRPC staff and new hires. 
  • Be a subject matter expert in combo plan administration (DC & DB) compliance testing and consulting. 
  • Monitor CRPC productivity and work completion 
  • Create reports monthly documenting CRPC work progress using PensionPro and provide to Director, Defined Benefit Administration.
  • Assist team with ASC software related questions surrounding Cash Balance and 401(k) plan administration
  • Review and approve billing for all DC plans within the Cash Balance Team. 
  • Point of contact for a small block of key client relationships on the team
  • Lead special projects and initiatives as needed
  • Perform annual performance reviews and set personal goals for CRPC’s to achieve


Requirements

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

  • Expert knowledge of DC and DB stand alone and combo plan testing. Including minimum and maximum funding rules, ADP/ACP, 401(a)26, 415, 410(b), Top Heavy and 401(a)(4) non-discrimination testing
  • Ability to manage staff located in remote locations
  • Coach, motivate, and mentor employees to achieve company goals in a results-oriented team environment
  • Key contributor to the improvement of the company’s operations processes and procedures
  • Must be detailed and possess strong organizational skills
  • Time management focused adhering to deadlines and timelines
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and provide solutions
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication
  • Conveys a professional and positive attitude while leading a team in a fast-paced environment

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED required 
  • 3+ years of training, supervisory and/or management experience in the 401(k)/Cash Balance Combo Plan environment
  • 3+ years of experience with preparing actuarial valuations and combo compliance testing within ASC software required 
  • Broad knowledge of the retirement plan industry
  • ASPPA and/or ERPA designation preferred

We utilize many Microsoft Teams features (such as Channels and file storage) for announcements, relevant conversations, and file sharing. Familiarity with Microsoft Teams is a plus
  • Accustomed with file-storage and file-sharing tools such as Microsoft SharePoint
