Project Description

DRT provides data, technology, and mission support to its federal public health partners. We collaborate to address diverse, complex, and emerging problems within the public health domains of environmental health, infectious disease, chronic disease, and emergency preparedness/response. Our support drives the adoption of emerging best practices and technologies to increase the usefulness and value of public health data. Our team develops innovative data capture and analysis techniques in the field to enhance emergency response efforts all around the world.

Job Summary

The Public Health Technologist works directly with public health professionals, data analysts, project coordinators, and developers. The Technologist designs solutions for public health surveillance monitoring of infectious disease and chronic disease cases. The solutions will support public health data including lab data, immunization data, clinical data, and environmental data.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and maintains multiple datasets for use with public health surveillance initiatives.
  • Participates in requirement gathering exercises and provides recommendations on solutions.
  • Researches tools, systems, and techniques related to public health surveillance requirements.
  • Recommends and implements improvements to technical solutions.
  • Creates, modifies, and maintains software capabilities that extract insight from data, to include information, software applications, machine learning models, automation, and other software components.
  • Works with analysts, subject matter experts, and data scientists to determine and implement data structures.
  • Follows the government’s software development lifecycle framework and provides agreed upon project documentation.
  • Completes tasks on time with minimal supervision but supports collaboration across teams.

Required Experience

  • Must have or be able to obtain a Public Trust with the US federal government
  • Experience supporting public health surveillance efforts, and/or utilizing electronic clinical and lab data to conduct surveillance efforts with public health agencies
  • Advanced understanding of public health data sources and analyses
  • Knowledge of public health data and related privacy requirements (HIPAA, PII, etc.)

Preferred Experience

  • Recent experience with HHS data to include the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) environment and standards: SDLC, technical architecture, release processes
  • Experience with Agile and DevOps methodologies

Education and Training

  • Degree(s) in Information Technology, Data Science, Computer Science, Public Health, or related field

Currently due to the remote working status of the federal government, most DRT employees are teleworking from home and leveraging video conferencing along with other virtual productivity tools. Under normal circumstances, most of our positions are required to report onsite. However, DRT has not yet determined when employees will be required to return to their onsite workspaces. Please be aware that at the time a date is determined to return to the worksite, the requirement of this position may be to report in person to the work location.
