The primary purpose of this position is to underwrite new business and renewals in a profitable manner and according to authority level and established guidelines, and participate in special projects having an impact on the business. Assigned larger and more important agents/brokers. Utilize underwriting tools to determine accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges. Take corrective action on accounts and overall book of business if and when justified. Understand state laws, including cancellation and non-renewal, within assigned territory to properly transact business within each state. Knowledgeable in coverage forms and policy language; appropriate utilization of forms and exclusions. Able to provide coaching to others. Actively participate in claims and product line meetings and special projects providing timely and impactful feedback and input. Able to identify and articulate ideas for improvement of the product line. Communicate and collaborate with regional management and team to organize and leverage collective efforts across the portfolio.
Hybrid in Richmond. Remote available in Philadelphia, PA or Nashville, TN only.
The ideal candidate should have strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to cultivate new, productive relationships with producers within the Mid-Atlantic Region including SC, NC, TN, KY, VA, MD, DE, WV, & PA.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree preferred;
5+ years' experience underwriting management liability coverages;
Industry designations such as RPLU are a plus;
Experience in wholesale distribution channel;
Strong analytical skills including ability to analyze and understand policy language;
Strong oral and written communication skills;
Strong organizational skills with ability to manage competing priorities and timelines;
Demonstrated sales and marketing skills including the ability to utilize data to organize efforts;
Ability to coordinate efforts with support staff to maximize overall productivity;
Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel & Teams;
Up to 25% travel.

The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The pay range for the Sr. Underwriter $84,000 - $114,000.
