Job description

About this role
Medbelle is building the world's first digital hospital, enabling better specialist care pathways at lower costs throughout the UK. Our technology supports our nationwide network of private UK surgeons and hospitals, which redefines healthcare accessibility and empowers patients and clinicians alike.

Our mission is to make the best medical care accessible to all. We provide patients with an outstanding level of care that we would love to experience ourselves, leverage data to improve medical outcomes and generate cost savings for health insurers and individual patients.

Backed by renowned international investors, we are on a growth trajectory in the UK and simultaneously launching a value-based care model. We are looking to expand our leadership team with an experienced, highly motivated and passionate person who will thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
As our Chief Operating Officer, you will be a crucial part of the management team and responsible for scaling Medbelle’s core business. You will contribute to our vision by creating operational excellence across departments and play an instrumental role in taking us to new heights.
What you will do
  • Be a hands-on operational leader; managing daily operations and ensuring they support Medbelle‘s strategic and sales objectives
  • Take responsibility for our Operations, Sales and Marketing teams, providing them with strong leadership and mentoring and fostering a culture of achievement and success
  • Have a keen eye on process and performance optimisation and focus on streamlining both sales and operations processes to increase efficiency
  • Take responsibility for building robust sales strategies. Establish metrics and targets, aligning them with our long-term objectives
  • Represent Medbelle in operational partnerships with key partners (e.g. insurers, hospitals, referring organisations)
  • Be a part of the C-level team and work tightly with the CEO
Who you are
  • You have proven experience as a COO or have had a similar leadership role with a focus on operations and sales
  • You have experience with scaling up companies, ideally in a Venture Capital or Private Equity environment
  • You have 5+ years experience in specialist healthcare and understand the dynamics between different stakeholders, preferably in the UK
  • You have excellent analytical acumen, with the ability to understand data and translate it into understandable action points
  • You‘re hands on, and capable of both strong strategic thinking whilst simultaneously understanding the details - you can understand operations in detail and actually execute yourself
  • Your communication and interpersonal skills are outstanding, and you have a knack for building strong stakeholder relationships
  • You have experienced high-performance organisations before and are adaptable to thrive in a fast-paced and evolving startup environment
Bonus points
  • You have worked in the healthtech sector before or are very knowledgeable in the space
  • You have exposure in B2B(2C) sales
  • You have experience in a tech company
  • You understand and are excited about value-based care
What we offer
  • This is a crucial position for Medbelle and comes with competitive compensation as well as a sizable option package
  • A remote working setup that allows for flexibility
  • A Gym Membership of your choice to support our physical health
  • Enhanced Maternity Leave Pay
  • A subscription to Headspace Meditation App that helps our team to stress less, unwind and practice mindfulness
  • Nilo mental health support subscription that allows each team member to have free consultations with therapists and psychologists for mental health signposting, recommendations and diagnosis
  • Social Budgets for project lunches, department dinners or drinks with the team
  • Corporate Discount Benefits that include innumerable subscriptions and discounts to brands, including fashion and technology
  • A Personal Development Budget
  • Quarterly trips to our Berlin Office
The application process
Total duration: 4-6 weeks
We believe in giving everyone an equal chance. We want to find out if you have the necessary skills, independent of your background, gender, ethnicity, age etc. and take active steps to reduce any potential bias in our recruitment process.

  1. Screening: After you submit your application materials we will review them to gauge if they meet our requirements. We aim to get back to you as soon as possible.
  2. Aptitude test: If you pass the initial screening, our culture and talent team will reach out to schedule an initial aptitude test to evaluate your logic and communication skills.
  3. First-Round Interview with Executive Leadership:  If this all goes well, we will be in touch to schedule a video interview with our CEO, Leander. This call is also an opportunity for you to learn more about Medbelle and the role so that we can both evaluate if there is a mutual fit.
  4. Case study with CEO: If we both want to continue, we will send you a case study related to your role. The results of what you have prepared in your own time will then be discussed in a workshop with Leander.
  5. Management team interview: If successful, we will invite you to present the results to the remaining leadership team. You will also spend some time with them and the most relevant potential direct reports.
  6. Cultural Addition: A conversation will be a more personal chat with another member of our Medbelle team.
  7. Board Call: A conversation with the hiring committee of Medbelle’s advisory board.
  8. Reference calls: We will ask for the contact details of some of your prior managers or direct reports.
