Your missions

The CDC Foundation is seeking candidates for a Public Health Specialist with experience in infection prevention and control and/or global health. This position will be an integral part of the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Technical Assistance (TA) project team working to support Global Fund (GF) countries. This project focuses on strengthening IPC in 15 low-and middle-income countries that are receiving grants from the Global Fund on IPC. The Public Health Specialist will support efforts to strengthen existing IPC programs by addressing gaps, with a particular focus on project management. The Public Health Specialist will work in collaboration with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) subject matter experts at CDC/Atlanta and CDC country offices, Ministries of Health (MOH), CDC Foundation consultants, GF country teams and implementing partners in-country.

This full-time position will be hired by the CDC Foundation and assigned to the Division of Health Quality and Promotion (DHQP), National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID) at the CDC. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance (remote and onsite) to support IPC activities in low- and middle-income countries in Africa
  • Support IPC activities, in healthcare facilities and at the national level, by engaging with the MOHs or other relevant stakeholders
  • Support assessments of current IPC programs, policies, and practices and provide guidance on quality improvement
  • Maintain regular communications and ensure coordination between CDC offices, MOHs, GF partners and other relevant stakeholders, including coordination of meetings
  • Collaborate with CDC offices, MOHs, GF country teams and other relevant stakeholders to support the identification of gaps in existing IPC programs and the development and implementation of activities to address those gaps
  • Conduct monitoring and evaluation to establish targeted outcomes and measure progress
  • Participate in additional activities and other duties as assigned

  • Qualifications and Skills Necessary
  • Fluency in English (speaking, reading, writing)
  • A master’s degree in public health or equivalent degree is required
  • Ability to work in French strongly preferred (advanced language skills)
  • At least one year of public health experience in an international, resource-limited setting is desired
  • At least one year of demonstrated skills and experience in IPC, program management, or monitoring and evaluation
  • Background in infectious diseases and IPC
  • Strong project management skills desired
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication (verbal and written) skills are required
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently at times as well as a member of a team
  • Demonstrated effective diplomatic skills and the ability to work in close, supportive technical collaboration with individuals from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds as well as a range of public health partners and stakeholders, including international governmental and non-governmental organizations
  • Proficient use of relevant computer programs including the MS Office standard suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • International travel will be required (10-30%) to Africa
