Job Description

The ROC Operator/remote commissioning position is responsible for Safely commissioning a fleet of new generator facilities remotely within ERCOT under checklist 3 and 4 as well as assisting in safely operating a fleet of photovoltaic solar power and Battery Storage plants monitored and operated by CES.  The schedule is predominantly Monday through Friday with flexibility to work weekends as well as the Holidays that fall on a need basis determined by the customer. Main duties include Commissioning testing, data acquisition, fault evaluation, alarm handling, ticketing, and support of field teams.  Specific knowledge in ERCOT remote commissioning is preferred.  

Key Responsibilities

  • The Operator will run remote commissioning testing of new generation assets for ERCOT checklist part 3 and part 4

 

  • Report and document and schedule testing that is being performed to the appropriate Regional Transmission Organization / Independent System Operators and costumer

 

  • The Operator is responsible, monitoring and coordinating the operation of CES Solar, BESS, and wind assets from the 24/7 Operations Control Center

 

  • The Operator ensures that operations comply with all applicable North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards and practices.

 

  • The Operator will need to work independently with guidance only in complex situations

 

  • Monitor real-time control center operations and the performance of CES’s fleet of managed assets while applying established procedures in order to guarantee safety of company assets and personnel while maximizing availability and generation

 

  • Ensure compliance to all regulatory and contractual requirements through adherence to all operational procedures, processes, and policies

 

  • Evaluate system alarms and irregularities, taking corrective action as outlined in established guidelines while Ensuring quality and accuracy of real-time generation information being telemetered to RTO/ISO

 

  • Dispatch field and emergency service personnel when appropriate

 

  • Remotely direct electrical substation switching at facilities using a detailed understanding of the Company's electrical switching practices

 

  • Assist Field Service Technicians with troubleshooting on a daily basis

 

  • Record operating actions taken during shifts in the operator's log

 

  • Utilize accurate and efficient three-part communication skills on inbound and outbound telephone conversations

 

  • Complete applicable safety and regulatory/compliance training requirements

 

  • Identify process improvements; includes reduction of non-value added operations, increased productivity opportunities, increased safety opportunities, etc

 

  • Additional duties as required

Experience/Qualifications/Education Required

  • Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent combination of training and experience preferred.

 

  • Compensation range will be determined by years of experience in power system operations, power production, or related energy operations

 

  • Experience in remote commissioning within ERCOT for new generators

 

  • Ability to obtain Certifications (such as those required by NERC, RTOs, and ISOs) as needed and at CES’ expense.

 

  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software

 

  • Ability to use multiple SCADA software applications or learn them with minimal formal software-specific training.

 

  • Strong interpersonal skills

 

  • High attention to detail

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

 

  • Ability to be self-motivated

 

  • Ability to perform job tasks in a collaborative working environment

  • Willingness to cover extra shifts on occasion based on illness or absence of other operators. Extra shifts will typically result in significant overtime pay depending on work schedule.
