Job Description

Condé Nast is seeking a Affiliate Editor for Condé Nast Traveller (CNT) Germany.

You will take ownership of all affiliate-focussed output on cntraveller.de across traditional verticals such as destinations, places to stay, lifestyle & culture and wellness & spa, while seeking opportunities to grow Condé Nast Traveller Germany affiliate coverage into new areas. This will involve editing and scheduling CNT`s commerce content calendar to maximise revenue against targets.

You’ll have a strategic mindset and be in tune with travel trends and booking and shopping habits across the year while also using data from affiliate platforms and competitor analysis to inform new content and update frequency. On top of the more traditional commerce galleries, you’ll seek out new ways to present commerce content, including building content franchises and dedicated deals articles. You’ll also plan how articles are promoted via a commerce newsletter framework, social platforms.

You will be the first point of contact for affiliated content in the CNT-Team and will work closely together with our local affiliate relationship manager in order to improve and negotiate more lucrative CPAs and product placement offers with platforms and merchants.
You will manage and edit the work from freelancers, also manage the commerce freelance budget, strategically distributing to writers and temporary staff and planning in advance ahead of key travel & shopping events.

An understanding of the numbers is an integral part of the role and you will build comprehensive frameworks to analyse daily revenue figures from Skimlinks, Amazon, Impact and more. On top of using these analyses’ to inform next steps, you will communicate commerce results via email report with CNT editorial team on a weekly basis, as well as with the central digital team and Conde Nast’s other local and european commerce teams.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead the ideation process and commissioning of new commerce content across the commerce writing team and freelancers

  • Be plugged into current trends and competitor output to inform new content

  • Use data from Skimlinks, Impact and Amazon Associates for an acute understanding of best-performing articles to build and maintain a regular update schedule, and create content clusters around popular content

  • Report commerce results to the central digital and CNT teams on a weekly basis with a holistic vision of what is/isn’t performing and why

  • Collaborate with the CNT commercial team to stay aligned around key events and to share opportunities

  • Collaborate with the CNT editorial team to ensure content being worked on outside of the immediate team’s capacity is optimised for commerce where applicable

  • Identify potential relationships with high-performing merchants and seek out new ways to make these partnerships more lucrative with increased CPAs and advertorials in close collaboration with the affiliate marketing manager.

  • Find new ways of presenting commerce content to the CNT audience including franchises, regular deals articles and commerce emails

  • Manage the freelance budget with a strategic view towards return of investment in the short- or long-term

Essential Skills & Requirements

  • Ability to lead, organise and edit the work of a team of writers and freelancers

  • A knack for numbers and the ability to piece different data together to form a hypothesis as to why spikes and trends occur

  • Proven record of maintaining relationships with external merchants to build relationships and negotiate more lucrative rates

  • Detailed knowledge of SEO principles and best practice

  • Ability to write and edit clean, engaging copy without resorting to jargon

  • Organised and methodical approach to work
