This role requires the Embedded Consultant to be deployed on site in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for the duration of their deployment.

The successful candidate will lead and deliver the operational components of Asset Protection with specific focus on Access Control and in-field Asset Protection Operations. The Embedded Consultant will be responsible for security service provider deployment, managing interaction with host nation police and other public security service providers, application of the Force Continuum and in alignment to expectations and business needs.

Task and Responsibilities

  • Leads Asset Protection Operations for success, identifying and ensuring that the required skills, equipment, systems, materials and infrastructure are defined, planned, available and sustained.
  • Implements the site-specific asset protection and security strategy and the supporting security management plan to address ongoing/long-term site security issues.
  • Accountable for access control, surveillance and integrity of security controls and barriers ensuring effective deployment of countermeasures based upon risk assessment and appropriate technology.
  • Responsible for security operations and the deployment of Asset Protection offices, private and public Security Service providers ensuring that deployments are aligned to company expectations and respect the requirement for public security providers to remain outside of the fence line.
  • Ensures that first response ‘intervention’ teams are available, suitably equipped and trained.
  • Verifies that all dogs and dog handlers deployed are appropriately trained and restrained as per company expectations and standards.
  • Provides advice and recommendations to area owners to enable security in-depth and facility hardening. Supports through effective deployment of guards, patrols and technology to improve the security of assets and personnel ensuing effective search processes are in place and maintained.
  • Develops the site-specific security operating procedures for access controls, loss prevention, security systems and technology, guard and patrol deployment, access control and operations.
  • Owns the Asset Protection control and surveillance room and ensures that activities are effective and appropriate in supporting the deployment of intervention teams and guarding resources.
  • Ensures that all security incidents are promptly reported and reports submitted to the GM-Asset protection in alignment with corporate standard and to identify non-conformance and that appropriate risk management measures are recommended.
  • Conducts detailed reviews of all security breaches, recommends and deploys appropriate mitigation measures including housekeeping, engineering, technology and access controls.
  • Prepares and/or approves comprehensive, timely, and detailed case reports on all inquiries, and interviews to enable company personnel to undertake take corrective action or policy change.
  • Maintains regular communications with senior management and with other departments to foster cooperative efforts to prevent/minimize loss and/or security hazards/violations, which may include regular discussions, presentations, training and reports as necessary.
  • Undertakes security and vulnerability audits; develops appropriate recommendations and solutions for identified issues in conjunction with the area owners.
  • Ensures that any detainments undertaken are lawful and correctly processed.
  • Enable the strategies, tactics, public and private security service provider management practices required to deliver best-in-class access control and asset protection operations such that the Asset Protection organization will become recognized as a top performing area across the organization.

  • Instill safety consciousness, operational discipline, grow value and drive employee advancement within Asset Protection Operations functions to deliver department commitments and goals successfully and safely.

Requirements

Essential

  • A minimum 15 years relevant asset protection or security including experience Copper or Gold operations and/or oil and gas and/or wildlife protection.
  • A robust understanding of best practice in safe Asset Protection.
  • Tertiary education or equivalent in-line with security risk management and consulting.
  • In depth knowledge of Human Rights principles for security operations; specifically, VPSHR.
  • Practical experience in a security specific training and development role and conducting investigation (both compliance and safety).
  • Proficiency in French or Swahili language.

Competencies

  • Previous tactical/operational experience in Law Enforcement or Military highly regarded.
  • Ability to effectively work and communicate with a local workforce.
  • Demonstrated experience in working in challenging and demanding environments.
  • Exposure to, or delivery of, operational security planning and risk consulting.
  • Strong critical, analytical, and creative thinking skills.
  • Ability to translate technical ideas into practical solutions.
