System Automation (SA) is a software vendor based in Columbia, Maryland, with a focus on providing systems that support government regulatory management operations.
Founded in the District of Columbia in 1968 and originally contracted to develop and support the US Army recruiting system (contract held for 42 years), SA has since become an industry leader in designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive information management applications for government regulatory agencies across the country. Our licensure experience began in 1994 providing the Maryland Board of Nursing a licensing solution and has since evolved to support many regulatory needs, including licensing, permitting, enforcement, inspections, investigations, case management, online payments, public verification, robust reporting, online self-service for applicants and license seekers, and paperless regulatory operations.
For nearly three decades, SA has built a solid track record of demonstrable success delivering SaaS licensure and compliance solutions to government regulatory agencies. SA is currently supporting state government agencies, licensing boards, and other regulatory operations in 22 states for nearly 800 different professions, occupations, and industries.

Position summary
Responsible for developing applications using our SaaS platform builder. A typical day of a Solution Consultant involves meeting with customers and understanding their business and its challenges, functionally outlining a solution to the identified use cases, and then leveraging a set of low and no code platform building blocks to build a solution to meet the client’s needs. To succeed in this position, you must have an analytical and technical way of thinking, be able to explain concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders and enjoy expanding your skillset as new technology presents itself to continue to deliver better results to the organization and our customers.
This role combines the nature of performing high amounts of configuration in our platform, including “point and click” creation of new workflows, data objects, actions, and pages. Depending on experience, the role may also include performing customizations through API (Application Programming Interface) integrations and JavaScript customizations when necessary to create custom widgets for user interactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate business requirements into well-architected solutions
- Develop detailed technical solution documentation in support of client business objectives through flowcharts, diagrams, user guides, etc.
- Participate in and/or lead technical design sessions
- Create, update, configure, and maintain business applications with our low code application platform
- Depending on experience, may develop custom API integrations, custom widgets, and other custom coding with JavaScript where needed in support of project delivery
- Ensure all production changes are made in accordance with lifecycle methodology, version control, appropriate testing, and risk guidelines
- Stay informed of new technologies and be aware of new platform capabilities, industry standards, and best practices
- Conduct working sessions with clients to facilitate feedback; resolve technical issues during client review and testing
- Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications
Required
- Demonstrated experience assessing customer business needs and implementing technical solutions to meet those needs
- Demonstrated experience leveraging an in-depth understanding of software capabilities in order to address business challenges
- Ability to apply data modeling concepts to solution designs
- Understanding of relational and non-relational data structures
- Experience working with APIs (Application Programming Interface, e.g., REST / Graph) preferred
- Knowledge of software development and deployment methodologies (e.g., Scrum) and related tools (e.g., Confluence, JIRA, Smartsheet, PlanView, Git, Jenkins, Bamboo, TFS, etc.)
Preferred
- Prior experience in a technical consulting role implementing commercially available ERP software (Certifications or prior experience with software such as ServiceNow, Workday, or SAP a plus)
- Experience working with low code platforms and workflow automation (MS Power Apps / Logic Apps is a plus)
- Ability to use mockup tools such as Figma, PowerPoint, etc. to explain design approaches
- Fluent in JavaScript with at least 2 years of experience (experience with React is a plus) building rich user experiences
