Work Location: The position will be located at the Red River Research Station, Bossier City, Louisiana. Red River Research Station, Bossier City, Louisiana.
Position Description: The incumbent will work on the USDA-funded project, which focuses on understanding the influence of cropping systems on runoff water quality and nutrient losses, and develop an irrigation strategy using agricultural return flows (recycling tailwater). Additional research will develop predictive simulations/models or utilize a processed-based model on soil properties, soil health, water quality, GHG emission, and crop production. The research will focus on studying soil chemical processes on water use efficiency, water quality, nutrient transport, and other soil services. The applicants will be expected to conduct field studies on the influence of soil management practices, including cover crops, additional carbon amendment, carbon sequestration, soil water storage, and C and N cycles to improve crop production. Other activities include research on the impact of climate change on crop production through the management of GIS-based data analysis, and a GIS-based watershed model will be desired. The position also will be responsible for supervising student and transient employees.
Qualification Requirements: Minimum of a Ph.D. in Soil Science, Soil Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, or a closely related discipline with educational experience with Water Chemistry, Soil Physics, and Soil Fertility. Field experiences and model simulation in measuring and evaluating water quality, crop growth, C and N cycles, and soil health in response to interactions among the environment, the soil, and the crop are desirable.
Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefits options.
