Job Description:

(This is a grant-funded position through December 2023. Continuation will be dependent on funding, job performance, and continued need for the appointment.)

Work Location:  School of Animal Sciences, LSU Ag Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Position Description: A research associate position is available in a pathobiology laboratory dealing with oysters. The position will involve conducting both laboratory and field studies to test and select oysters for their resistance to dermo disease, caused by the parasite Perkinsus marinus. The successful candidate will be responsible for field logistics and sampling, laboratory activities and analyses, data management, and preparation of figures.

Qualification Requirements:  Applicant must hold a B.S. in biological sciences or a related field. An applicant with experience in some, or preferably all, of the following (1) demonstration of skills through field experience in estuarine habitats, (2), maintenance of saltwater recirculating systems, (3) cell culture aseptic techniques, (4) motivation and initiative to work with little supervision. Ability to work independently, create work plans, meet deadlines, and work in difficult environments critical.

Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
