Job description

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is a global, nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C., working to improve environmental sustainability, human health, and resilience in the built environment through its programs and rating systems including LEED. Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) is the premier certification body responsible for global delivery and quality oversight of green building and green business sustainability standards. Its integrated team of green building specialists administers credentials and certifications for the U.S. Green Building Council (LEED), the International WELL Building Institute (WELL Building Standard), International Finance Corporation (EDGE), PEER, SITES, TRUE Zero Waste, and IREE.   

  

USGBC is currently seeking a Product ManagerThis role is focused on driving the development and delivery of USGBC/GBCI products and services focused on building performance and advancing large scale decarbonization and other sustainability improvements for organizations and their real estate portfolios.  

 

Responsibilities include managing the full lifecycle of assigned productsincluding product discovery, development, delivery, and optimization. This includes driving integration and continuous improvement of digital performance tools and portfoliolevel offerings across many different departments to create customer value, strengthen USGBC/GBCI products and services, and increase market impact 

 

Specific Responsibilities:  

 

  • Market Intelligence & Positioning  

  • Develop a deep understanding of customer needs and pain points.  
  • Conduct market research, monitor and analyze market trends, and map competitive landscape to inform product design, new service offerings, and overall product strategy. 
  • Create and maintain product management documentation, including target customer, value proposition, product differentiation, and more. 
  • Work closely with market facing staff to create messaging that effectively positions products and services for target markets. 

 

  • Product Development & Delivery

  •  

  • Create and actively manage a comprehensive product plan and roadmap for assigned product(s)
  • Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure execution of the product plan
  • Collect, review, and prioritize customer, staff, and market requirements
  • Act as a user advocate representing customer goals and challenges
  • Collaborate closely across departments to implement effective planning, development, testing, release, maintenance, and promotion of assigned products
  • Ensure alignment between various performance tools and products to provide a cohesive and high-value user experience

 

  • Product Evaluation & Optimization 


  • Monitor and analyze product data to identify opportunities to increase revenue, market impact, and customer satisfaction
  • Provide innovative solutions across assigned products to meet market needs
  • Lead integration efforts of building and portfolio performance products within all business processes and systems
  • Define, monitor, analyze, and report on KPIs for assigned product(s)
  • Develop sales enablement resources and inform go-to-market strategies
  • Contribute to the development of a cohesive and strategic product portfolio aligned with market needs and USGBC strategic imperatives 

 

  • Leadership & Collaboration: 


  • Manage interns, one or more junior staff members and supervise contractors as needed
  • Engage with internal team members and external stakeholders to drive product success
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive organization culture in which staff respect each other, act with integrity, honor collaboration, and embrace continuous improvement
  • Mentor and coach junior team members to support their professional development

 

Required Qualifications: 


  • Bachelor's degree  
  • 5-7 years of relevant product management experience, with a focus on green building, commercial real estate, ESG, or equivalent areas 
  • Proven track record of successfully managing the full lifecycle of products from concept to delivery 
  • Experience managing software as a service (SaaS) products and services relevant to the green building industry 
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making 
  • Familiarity with USGBC and GBCI mission, and stakeholders 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 


  • Advanced degree preferred 
  • >7 years of product or program management experience in green building, commercial real estateESG, or equivalent areas 
  • Familiarity with various sustainability standards and frameworks including but not limited to LEED, WELL, GRESB, TCFD, GRI, SBTi, etc. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of portfolio scale sustainability strategies, organizational sustainability commitments, and associated reporting mechanisms 
  • LEED GA or AP accreditation

  • The ability to communicate complex issues effectively with peers, senior leadership, and other key stakeholders

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • Demonstrated skills with Microsoft tools and one or more project/product management systems (e.g., JIRA, Notion, ProductPlan, etc.)  
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse staff
