We’re hiring technology experts. You’ll be working in our new Artificial Intelligence team, helping to deliver world class customer experiences. The faster we can serve our customers, the quicker we can work towards our Plan Zero goals.
This role in a nutshell:
As a Software Engineer at OVO, you will be at the forefront of leveraging AI to enhance customer experiences. You'll work as a team to develop and implement innovative solutions that optimise user interactions and personalise services.
Your expertise will drive the delivery of cutting-edge AI-powered features, ensuring OVO Energy remains a leader in providing seamless and tailored experiences for our customers.
Your key outcomes will be:
- Work closely with your line manager (SEM) to help shape the roadmap
- Work closely with product managers to align on technical capabilities
- Help to implement AI into our operational teams and customer experiences
Within your first months month you’ll:
- Understand the tech stacks that underpin our operations
- Help to shape our technology roadmap
Systems: Event Streaming (Kafka, Pub/Sub), Monitoring (DataDog, Wiz), Cloud Platforms (Google Cloud, AWS), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), Languages (Typescript)
You’ll be a successful Software Engineer at OVO if you…
- A proven track record of designing, building, monitoring and managing large-scale data products, pipelines, tooling and platforms.
- Experience working on streaming ETL solutions utilising streaming data processing tools (e.g. Kafka Streams, Kinesis, Spark or similar).
- Experience developing cloud-based solutions on GCP (preferably), AWS or Azure using Infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform.
- Excellent knowledge of Typescript, Node.js and Express.
- Knowledge of the best engineering practices and continuous delivery.
- An understanding that building quality software is essential and you value automation and continuous delivery.
- A love for building scalable, resilient solutions, and you enjoy influencing the team's technology selection and architectural direction.
- You will be comfortable working in an agile software development environment and have experience of CI/CD and deployment strategies.
- Knowledge of AI platforms e.g. Vertex, SageMaker

We’ll pay you between £70,410 and £92,000, depending on your specific skills and experience.
We keep our pay ranges broad on purpose to give us, and you, flexibility to match your experience to our zero carbon mission.
You’ll be eligible for an on-target bonus of 15%. We have one OVO bonus plan that focuses on the collective performance of our people to deliver our Plan Zero goal.
