Since 2011, CA has directly fostered the development and interconnection of over 35 GW of clean and renewable energy technology-based power generation. Our client base includes leading utilities, Independent System Operators (ISOs), power and energy sector investors, investment banks, and Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) and power project developers globally, Federal Government and other government agencies, including State Government.
Looking for a Power Systems Economics Modeling Engineer to join our power systems practice. As a critical part of a new function that CA is establishing, you will be responsible for performing highly detailed power market studies and due diligence, assessing congestion on the US transmission grid, evaluating curtailment for renewable power generators, conducting research, preparing reports, evaluating the impact of policies, and contribute to thought leadership on the U.S. energy sector. You will analyze trends in the industry, including renewable resource integration, decarbonization, electrification, and grid modernization in support of our clients’ efforts to meet their clean energy objectives. You will assess the impact of policies and regulations that could shape the nature of investments in the energy sector in the coming years. We are looking for a highly analytical individual, with attention to detail, who balances strong communication and technical skills and can work independently and collaboratively.
Role: Power Systems Economics Modeling Engineer

Role & Responsibilities of Power Systems Economics Modeling Engineer
Perform electric transmission and distribution system modeling and analysis using tools such as PROMOD, PLEXOS, PROBE LT, PSLF, PSS/E, TARA, and PowerWorld
Perform congestion and curtailment analysis for power generation projects, specifically renewable energy projects.
Analyze technical and economic impacts of energy sector regulations, legislation, and policies; energy market forces; and macroeconomic trends.
Support clients in tackling challenges to the achievement of clean energy goals, including investments in renewable resources, advancements in grid modernization, improvements in grid reliability and resilience, and feasibility of decarbonization and electrification measures.
Lead, coach, and share best practices with other CA colleagues.
Establish yourself as a thought leader on energy sector regulations, policies, and trends through publications and presentations that highlight CA’s technical leadership.
For senior level staff - Manage technical consulting assignments, including outlining and drafting deliverables, managing the budget, and directing project staff.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is required.
MS, M. Tech., or Ph.D. in Electric Power Systems is preferred from a premium engineering university or college such as the IITs or NITs in India is strongly preferred.
Minimum 1 to 1.5 years of successfully supporting U.S. energy market analysis or European energy market analysis or having worked in the US power sector in some capacity is required.
Knowledge of U.S. electricity market structures, regulations and policies and understanding of trends in electricity transmission and distribution
Project management experience with multidisciplinary teams.
Ability to manage multiple projects and engagements simultaneously.
Knowledge of electricity market modeling approaches and tools (e.g., PROMOD, PLEXOS, PROBE LT, Aurora) and powerflow tools such as PSLF, PowerWorld, PSS/E, TARA. Knowledge of basic powerflow within electric power systems and at least one tool in each domain mentioned above is required.
Experience with Microsoft Office
Programming skills in Python or another major programming language and/ or other data analysis tools such as Excel, R, etc.

Ability to apply detailed knowledge of organizational procedures to make independent decisions and serve as a credible resource for a senior management team.

Other Requirements
Ability to travel for business as needed within North America and internationally. A person based in India may have limited to no need to travel in the United States.
