Job Description Summary

The Assistant Director of Online Engagement reports to the Director of Online Life, assisting in developing, facilitating, and executing initiatives focused on engagement with the Online student population at Liberty University. This position helps to oversee the facilitation and creation of various online student communities, plans and hosts events to engage online students, and leads a team of Student Workers in regular engagement with online students, event coordination, and support of online students. The Assistant Director of Online Engagement also mentors various students through a variety of digital and face-to-face avenues. This position will also assist with various other Student Life events and programming initiatives as needed. The ideal candidate for this position is relational, affable, timely, digitally literate, self-motivated, and views the engagement of online students not just as a role, but also a ministry. **

Essential Functions And Responsibilities**

  • Online Student Engagement
    • Plan and host online student engagement events in both digital and in-person contexts.
    • Assist in the execution and development of an online student engagement strategy.
    • Engage online students directly in a variety of contexts such as meetups, times of prayer, and both virtual and in-person online student gatherings.
  • Oversight of Online Student Community
    • Daily review of all Online Life groups to respond and/or review new posts and comments.
    • Identify and mentor student leaders to lead interest-specific groups in the online community.
    • Review the prayer requests group and respond to student prayer requests. Contact students to offer continued support and follow-up on prayer requests.
    • Supervise a team of student workers as they work to directly engage and facilitate conversation amongst online student communities.
  • Research
    • Supplement online student engagement strategies with cutting-edge and current research on online student communities and student engagement.
    • Develop and provide department leadership with regular reports of attendance in programming and events taken from other online communities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications And Credentials**

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education
    • Bachelor’s degree completed.
  • Experience
    • 2-3 years of social media management, pastoral counseling, online community engagement, student development, or higher education administration experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education
    • Completed master’s degree.
  • Experience
    • 4-5 years of social media management, pastoral counseling, online community engagement, student development, or higher education administration experience.

  • Possesses excellent computer skills, necessary for Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite.

Physical and Sensory Abilities

  • Frequently required to travel to local and campus locations.
  • Frequently required to sit for extended periods to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard.
  • Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate and review ORL media content.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building.
  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.
  • Regularly lift 20 or fewer pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is in an office setting. However, work frequently occurs in a variety of other settings; including, but not limited to, residence halls, warehouses, and outdoor activities.

Driving Requirements

Use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
