Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Vice President of Equity Compliance, the Director of Education supports the important mission of the Office of Equity and Compliance /Title IX (OEC) by developing, implementing, and overseeing prevention education curriculums/ programs, awareness events, and trainings to the campus community on the OEC policies / procedures. The Director of Education will also work with the key members of leadership within OEC to ensure that all OEC staff receive required annual trainings, as well as ensure compliance with Title IV, VI, VII, IX, the Jeanne Clery Act (Clery Act), Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), and FERPA (related to education, prevention, awareness, and training requirements). **

Essential Functions And Responsibilities**

  • Create, implement, assess, and track completion of online and in-person comprehensive, evidence-based, trauma-informed education curriculum and programs that address sexual misconduct prevention and awareness as defined by the Clery Act, Title IX, and VAWA, including consent, bystander intervention, risk reduction, healthy relationships, and communication.
  • Manage, conduct, and track completion of online and in-person trainings for students, employees, faculty and others concerning OEC policies and procedures and reporting requirements for Responsible Employees and Campus Security Administrators. Ensure the content and quality of those trainings are legally compliant.
  • Develop, organize, and oversee awareness events and campaigns centered on sexual misconduct prevention, and OEC policies and procedures, as well as for specific awareness months, including Sexual Assault Awareness Month (April), Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October), Stalking Awareness Month (January), and Dating Violence Awareness Month (February).
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including Title IV, VI, VII, IX, the Clery Act, VAWA, and FERPA (especially related to education, prevention, and training requirements).
  • Collaborate with the Communications/Marketing representative within the OEC to create and maintain educational social media posts, literature/materials, videos, and other marketing initiatives centered on sexual misconduct prevention, awareness events, and training.
  • Maintain compliance with the VAWA Reauthorization Act of 2022 by assisting OEC leadership to administer the online campus climate survey developed by the Department of Education.
  • Maintain up-to-date research on best practices for prevention education, awareness campaigns, and training.
  • Cultivate working relationships with departments within Liberty to partner in coprogramming, including Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity; Enrollment Management; Residence Life; Community Life / CARE Team; LU Shepherds; Confidential Advocates; LU Health Center, Human Resources; Academic Faculty and Deans; Legal Affairs; and student led organizations such as Student Government Association (SGA), Resident Assistants (RA), Resident Shepherds (RS), Graduate Assistants, and other key departments.
  • Ensure that all OEC staff receive required annual trainings as well as ensure those trainings and materials are posted to the OEC website.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with local Lynchburg (and surrounding areas) community resources to develop MOU’s and other training initiatives to align with OEC priorities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

May supervise Federal Work Study and Work Assistant positions. **

Qualifications, Credentials, And Competencies**

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree and three or more years of relevant professional experience required, or equivalent combination of education and experience to provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
  • Superior ability to organize and maintain goals and deadlines to meet strategic objectives.
  • Ability to present professionally and dynamically in various venues: one-on-one, small group, large group, major public gathering, etc.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point for presentations in small and large gatherings.
  • Excellent communication skills – written and oral communication
  • Ability to articulate and defend the unique Christian educational mission and vision of Liberty University and its subsidiaries to a wide variety of individuals and groups.
  • Individual must not be in default on any federal student or parent loan.
  • Individual must not be convicted of, or pled nolo contendere or guilty to, a crime involving the acquisition, use, or expenditure of federal, state, or local government funds, -or- be administratively or judicially determined to have committed fraud or any other material violation of law involving federal, state, or local government funds (CFR 668.14(b)(18)(i)).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree with a concentration in higher education, criminal justice, education / teaching, student development, counseling, pastoral studies, biblical studies, or a related field.
  • At least five years of experience providing counseling, support, and/or training in a trauma-related field.
  • Self-starter, goal-oriented professional who is personable and able to foster working relationships with partners and colleagues.
  • Ability to work and communicate with a dynamic range of people, personalities, and interests.
  • Desire to work in a collaborative environment where teamwork is essential to accomplishing organizational goals.
