Job Description

The Authorization Manager leads and coaches the MyriadONE Revenue Operations Department’s Authorization team, effectively managing teams to achieve successful authorization workflows, leading to clean claims and reimbursement by payers. Authorization workflow includes managing health insurance eligibility/determination (in and out of network, primary and secondary) and the operational strategy of the authorization process, from submission through follow-up and including authorization appeals. This position works in a high-performance, fast-paced authorization-focused team environment performing key revenue functions across all Myriad Business Units. **

Responsibility**

  • Effectively coach and lead Supervisors to reach their (and their teams’) greatest potential through continuous improvement and creating a positive work environment
  • Develop, maintain and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and processes for insurance eligibility, authorization submissions, authorization follow-up and provider enrollment for 3rd party vendors including appropriate internal controls and operational performance standards (KPIs).
  • Day-to-day team tasks include (but not limited to) insurance eligibility checks, authorization submission and resolution, authorization appeals, error management and continuous communication between our systems vendors and partnering Myriad teams (Customer Service/Success, Payer Markets, and Revenue Cycle).
  • Establish team and individual goals in line with department and company goals. Develop appropriate monitoring and reporting processes to identify and communicate metrics and issues.
  • Responsible for entire performance management cycle of direct reports, including hiring, training and development, and performance management.
  • Maintain a competent and knowledgeable authorization staff to perform daily authorization responsibilities.
  • Responsible for identifying and recommending required systems support to achieve department goals.
  • Monitor trends and patterns and maintain an actionable dashboard with parts visible to the team and senior leadership.
  • Proficient at utilizing multiple internal systems, running applicable reports and following up on open action items.
  • Ability to solve problems, deal with changing variables and participate in the implementation and continuous improvement process of the department.
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations. Refer technical and operational inquiries to appropriate staff and ensure that proper follow up occurs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Finance or Business Administration or 8+ years of medical billing and collections/transactional processing management experience
  • Experience successfully leading, developing, & managing a team
  • Proof of experience with mentoring employees to improve skills and realize promotions
  • A reputation as a mature professional who can effectively monitor work, identify problems and improve processes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Strong problem solving, critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Strong systems and financial acumen
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in dynamic, fast-paced, high-performance, growth environment
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with third-party payers and other functional areas
  • Must be well-organized, detail-oriented, and have effective time management skills
  • Must be a self-motivated, innovative, and positive leader
  • Must have the ability to work extra hours to meet corporate and departmental goal
