This is a remote position.

Serving the world and the local Metro Washington DC area community, Piedmont Global Language Solutions (PGLS) offers language services consisting of   interpretation, translation, transcription, language instruction, cultural sensitivity training, and localization.   Our network of language professionals provides expertise in more than 200 languages, including regional dialects.

PGLS is looking for Freelance Translators  with the following experience:
  • Deep Industry Knowledge: A linguist's background in electronics and must demonstrate a proven track record of translating for the electronics manufacturing domain within the last 5 years. 
  • Global Electronics Manufacturing Context: Client operates on a global scale, making it crucial for our linguists to have experience in international electronics manufacturing contexts. This ensures that translations resonate with a worldwide audience while maintaining the precision and quality the client demands.

Translation services from   English to one of the following languages are needed:

Arabic
Czech
Danish
Dutch
Estonian
Hebrew
Hungarian
Italian
Polish
Romanian
Swedish
Turkish
Ukrainian
Vietnamese

These are “1099” (Independent Contractor) positions with the translation to take place 100% remotely depending on our customers’ specific needs.

Translator Functions:
  • Follow ethical codes that protect the confidentiality of information.
  • Compile terminology and information to be used in translations.
  • Refer to reference materials, such as dictionaries, lexicons, encyclopedias, and computerized terminology banks, as needed to ensure translation accuracy.
  • Check translations of technical terms and terminology to ensure that they are accurate and remain consistent throughout translation revisions.
  • Identify and resolve conflicts related to the meanings of words, concepts, practices, or behaviors.
  • Compile information on content and context of information to be translated, and on intended audience.
  • Check original texts or confer with authors to ensure that translations retain the content, meaning, and feeling of the original material.


Requirements
MINIMUM qualifications:

  • Knowledge of CAT tools (strongly desired).
  • Two (2) relevant professional references that can vouch for the candidate’s work as a translator OR one (1) relevant professional reference and one (1) relevant professional letter of recommendation.
  • Native-level proficiency in English and one other language (see list above).

Candidates must also meet one of the following criteria, by providing documented evidence:
  • Recognized graduate qualification in translation from an institution of higher education.
  • Recognized graduate qualification in any other field from an institution of higher education plus two years of full-time professional experience in translating.
  • Five years of full-time professional experience in translating (see specific experience needed above).

NOTE 1 In some countries, translation degrees may be referred to by a different name such as linguistic studies or language studies. If the course includes translation training, it is considered equivalent to a translation degree.

NOTE 2 Noting that the word “graduate” can have differing application in differing educational jurisdictions, in this International Standard it includes the first degree level of academic award issued by a recognized institution of higher education.

NOTE 3 Full-time professional experience means full-time or equivalent.
