Job description

Job Title: Qualifications Assessor

Location: Remote

Closing date: 15th March 2024

About the role
This role of an assessor is to mark the learner’s portfolio against the appropriate marking scheme and make decisions on the evidence that a learner has produced for the qualification. The learner can use a wide range of evidence to demonstrate they meet the assessment criteria. The postholder will also regularly report on performance to the Centre Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Make fair, valid, and reliable decisions when marking the learner’s evidence against the assessment criteria
  • Ensuring that the assessment methods used throughout the delivery of the qualification are those prescribed in the qualification specification
  • Support the learner by explaining the assessment process, including an explanation of the people involved in the assessment process
  • Support learners in planning for their assessment and agreeing the timescale for the learner’s evidence for assessment to be completed by
  • Ensuring evidence provided by learners is sufficient to meet requirements by providing advice to the learner on suitable activities to use as evidence
  • Provide constructive feedback to the learner about performance and achievement, giving clear explanations about the assessment decisions on the correct documentation
  • Based on feedback to the learner, create and agree an assessment action plan with the learner as appropriate
  • Discussing, confirming, and putting into place any reasonable adjustments and special considerations for learners, ensuring these are documented and agreed with the IOSH IQA and the AO EQA which must meet the required procedures
  • Ensuring that learners have signed a statement declaring that their work will be their own
  • Working together with the Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) to create a sampling strategy for internal quality assurance, which will include planning in sampling dates through the year
  • Undertaking regular standardisation meetings with the IQA
  • Completing all relevant assessment forms correctly and returning them to the internal quality assurer and/or Centre Coordinator within the agreed timescale
  • Keeping up to date with any changes made to IOSH policies, processes, or procedures, and to the content of the qualification specification
  • Being aware of External Quality Assurance (EQA) visits and ensuring any past actions have been carried out. Following an EQA visit assist in implementing any recommendations
  • Taking responsibility for your own health, safety, and wellbeing, and undertaking health and safety duties and responsibilities for your role
  • Treating all employees, customers and stakeholders with dignity and respect, ensuring IOSH values and behaviours are always demonstrated
  • An understanding of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and the ability to apply this to all situations.
  • Carrying out any other reasonable and necessary duties within the remit of the role and grade. The nature of the duties of this role may change and develop, according to the needs of the organisation.

The Person

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of quality systems, assessments, and processes
  • Knowledge of assessment and training principles
  • Demonstrate understanding of OSH sector

Skills and abilities

  • Excellent organisation and planning skills
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Robust IT skills
  • Excellent record keeping and attention to details, including working to defined processes and conditions
  • Ability to meet agreed deadlines

Experience

  • Experience of marking qualification assessments, with IOSH or another AO
  • Evidence of at least 3 years of working in an educational quality assurance role with knowledge of assessment and quality assurance principles
  • Experience of working in a Health and Safety environment

Education

  • Relevant subject expert, qualified to at least Level 6 in the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Sector (Essential)
  • Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment or equivalent such as A1 Assessing, D32 or D33 (Essential)
  • Hold Grad IOSH or Chartered Membership status with IOSH (Desirable)
