Job Title: Health Safety and Environment Technical DeveloperLocation: Home BasedStarting salary £40,500 - £42,750 per annum.

Our main objective is to create a culture that helps all of our customers strive towards a workforce that is reflective of today’s society. Working for CITB gives you the opportunity to make a difference in the health and safety of the UK construction industry.The roleCITB is currently looking for a technical developer with experience in construction health, safety and environment (HS&E) to join our professional, dynamic and forward-thinking development team in CITB Product Management.CITB Product Management is responsible for many of CITB’s key products, ensuring that these are aligned with industry needs, have maximum impact, and develop alongside the industry and evolving technologies. These products include the successful suite of Site Safety Plus (SSP) courses, examinations and accompanying publications, as well as our series of HS&E tests, aimed at all levels from operatives to senior managers, which support them with the skills needed to progress through the industry.As a subject matter expert in construction HS&E topics, you will be responsible for decision making in your specific area of expertise, working in collaboration with a project team. You will have significant impact on the strategy and development of CITB products, both within product development and the wider business, and you will be responsible for maintaining and developing content, ensuring that it is technically and legislatively accurate.The ideal candidate must also have highly developed writing skills relating to educational products, as a large part of the role will include writing questions for examinations, updating and writing publications, and producing eLearning scripts across different authoring styles.This role would be suitable for an individual with experience in delivering construction-related training, who has developed and delivered construction-led curriculums in further education, and who has held an HS&E role at a management or advisory level on construction projects.You will hold an essential and pivotal position in supporting the UK construction industry, not only in developing CITB’s educational products, but by being a key voice in providing subject-matter support to the wider business. Your work will help CITB continue to educate and inform the industry by raising awareness of HS&E risks and how to control them, ensuring that HS&E is seen as a priority, and driving professionalism and increasing standards.You will make an impact as part of our small team of developers. Projects vary, and you will lead on large projects lasting for months through to small tasks such as peer reviewing and image sourcing. It’s a fast-paced environment, and you will deal with a wide variety of topics and queries.You will work with others to create innovative and high-quality products, and will work alongside a team of technical developers with various specialities, as well as co-ordinate and manage both internal and external stakeholders, supported by a dedicated project team.

Key activities - Translating technical material into high-quality written content, whilst also evaluating the current products portfolio for suitability, and developing concepts to enhance it. This will include, but not be limited to: reviewing and rewriting publications; creating support material such as schemes of work; providing technical responses to queries; and question and report writing. - Using your subject-matter expertise to inform the strategic direction of CITB’s product portfolio. You will be responsible for decision-making in collaboration with the relevant CITB product owner. - Attending, facilitating and providing input into external stakeholder, industry and federation meetings as the subject matter expert for construction HS&E. - Collaborating with the industry to inform the process of developing products that are timely and fit for purpose. - Being accountable for your own continuous professional development, to ensure that you remain a current subject matter expert. - Delivering work packages as part of a project team, meeting agreed deadlines, and making sure that the technical content produced is precise and in line with legislation. - Providing accurate support and guidance to the wider CITB about any images or other assets, and checking that they represent safe working, good practice, and compliance with legislation. - Being accountable for undertaking a robust review of any external complaints or challenges relating to HS&E-related technical material for any CITB product, and responding with factual, evidence-based information in line with CITB behaviours. - Developing and maintaining effective communications and working relationships with the team, CITB and other associated groups and bodies

  About youYou will have extensive knowledge and experience of working in construction environments, specifically in the area of HS&E, in which you may have a specific skillset for one of these three elements. Having knowledge of specialist activities, such as temporary works and tunnelling, is an advantage. You may have gained this knowledge and experience in a variety of previous roles, with the key requirement being your ability to use your expertise to create and update content across a variety of products including courses, assessments, publications and digital products.As a minimum, you must hold a NEBOSH Health and Safety Management for Construction (UK) or NEBOSH Environmental Certificate (or equivalent).

You will have experience of working to detailed project plans and be a self-starter with excellent organisational and time management skills, along with highly-developed and confident writing and presenting skills.You will have the ability to translate technical material into product content for a range of audiences, and therefore understand that education and training are essential. You will always be committed to maintaining your own up-to-date knowledge of legislation, and CITB will support you in your learning and development.Finally, you will be able to communicate effectively at all levels, both internally and with external stakeholders.
