Job Description:
The credentialed veterinary technician in this position will assist in instruction of veterinary students in technical skills related to the practice of veterinary medicine in the clinical and surgical skills curriculum.
- Instruct and supervise veterinary students, house officers and clinicians with procedures and treatments within the junior surgery and clinical skills labs, including anesthesia.
- Set up for clinical skills laboratories and prepare and take down stations for objective structured clinical skills examination (OSCEs).
- Maintain equipment in the clinical skills and junior surgery laboratories.
- Assist with performance of daily operations of junior surgery and clinical skills labs, including but not limited to assisting laboratory manager, house officers, clinicians and students with patients
- Assist with all aspects of animal use in the clinical skills lab and junior surgery lab, including transport of cadaveric specimens and preparation of the aforementioned specimens for lab use
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with 4 years of experience OR Associate's degree in an applied science with four years of applicable experience in veterinary technical fields
Specific Experience: Experience in veterinary technical fields
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications:
6 years of experience

Special or Physical Qualifications:
Per PS 18- This position is a part of the Emergency Response Personnel - these personnel are linked with the hospital during any emergency response event and are expected to report in and perform as outlined in the emergency response plan.

Vehicle Operation - University employees whose principal responsibilities of employment include operating a vehicle, performing maintenance on a vehicle, or supervising any public employee who operates or maintains a vehicle and positions with an expectation to travel will require an MVR and are subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.
Required to be capable of lifting more than 50 pounds, stand or walk for prolonged periods, able to reach above and below the shoulder, kneel or sit on the floor, vision (near sight), vision (far sight), bending, push/pulling, sitting, twisting, grasping, and squatting
FERPA - As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency.
