Senior Systems Engineer

The Senior Systems Engineer is a technical lead who contributes to the infrastructure and platform design in alignment to the business strategy. The Senior Systems Engineer manages a platform that is resilient, highly available, secure, cost effective, and improves engineering productivity. Overall, the Senior Platform Engineer has strong technical abilities, a sound understanding of modern infrastructure design and management on private and public cloud systems.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities for the Senior System Engineer can vary, but should include:

  • Act as a technical subject matter expert and point of escalation, provide mentorship, and technical direction to team-members and evangelize best practices and methodologies.
  • Management of Pure Storage Arrays, Brocade Storage network, Nasuni NAS systems.
  • Management of HP Server platforms HP DL380/560 platforms.
  • VMWare vSphere Architecture management.
  • Conduct necessary analysis, design, and prepare technical documentation and runbooks for new toolsets and processes.
  • Design platform solutions and toolsets using infrastructure as code and configuration management.
  • Management of on-premises datacenter systems across Network / Storage / Server and other DC equipment as needed.
  • Advocate the use of configuration management tools for infrastructure in a hybrid cloud model.
  • Aligns platform capabilities to overall solution and business strategy.
  • Understand and be able build pipelines/patterns, following CI/CD practices, for delivering applications, services, and infrastructure in a consistent, reliable, and repeatable manner.
  • Creates and maintains documentation to support policies, procedures, and runbooks.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related (equivalent experience considered).
  • 5+ years experience in a 24x7 production enterprise-class environment.
  • 3+ years experience with Windows or Linux administration/support in a production environment.
  • 2+ years Azure or comparable cloud resource administration/support in a production environment.
  • Strong written and verbal interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills with attention to detail and driving issues to resolution.
  • Proficient with scripting tools and able to use them to automate tasks.
  • Storage administration background with both SAN and NAS systems.
  • Able to implement security best practices in server/storage configuration, tool development, and access controls.
  • Proficient with the following monitoring solutions Splunk, Microsoft SCOM and SolarWinds.
  • Proficiency in engineering and administration of Windows or Linux in a production environment.
  • Strong customer focus, ownership, bias for action and the ability to dive deep.
  • Excellent ability to align business processes and requirements with a technical implementation.
  • Write and contribute to project plans, engineering level documentation, and develop operational excellent standard operating procedures and run books with a bias towards automation.
  • Knowledge/Understand/Administration of container orchestration compute/network technologies with Kubernetes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing large-scale distributed systems.
  • Proficient with networking and troubleshooting (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, routing, firewalls, LAN/WAN, load balancing).
  • Knowledge of storage and how to implement and manage across a variety of solutions.
  • Experience with Healthcare industry HIPAA regulations (similar regulated industry experience considered i.e... PCI, SOX, HI TRUST)
  • Direct experience migrating solutions to Azure (comparable cloud platforms considered).
  • Experience working in an Agile and/or SAFe environment.

CERTIFICATION / TRAINING - Candidates with relevant certifications are preferred, including but not limited to the following: - ITIL Foundations - Palo Alto Networks: CCSE, CNSA/E, CSAE, CCET - Cisco: CCT, CCNA, CCNP, CCIE - Configuration: RHCE-Ansible, Terraform Associate - Kubernetes - CKA, KCSP - Linux – RHCE, CompTIA Linux+, GCUX, LPI - Microsoft: Azure Administrator, Azure DevOps Engineer, Azure Architect, MCSE
