Preparedness Specialist – Planning, Training and Exercise - WOB

Position Summary

We are a growing consulting firm in need of a dynamic emergency management professional to support our Readiness & Resilience Practice.  Our part-time preparedness team is available on an on-call basis to augment our consulting, planning, resilience, and response efforts. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience as a capable writer and communicator. These positions are responsible for applying professional and academic knowledge and ability to the public safety and preparedness arena for various clients. Our team must be highly professional and able to handle a broad variety of tasks with a high degree of independence and sound judgment and be able to work with other project team members, frequently in a virtual environment.

Position Details

  • Reports to:  Deputy Practice Lead or Practice Lead           
  • Location:  Remote (Work from Home), Potential On-site project support
  • Position Type:  On-Call        
  • FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
  • Pay:  Hourly (eligible for OT)
  • Compensation:  Commensurate with experience
  • Travel:  0 – 20% (dependent upon project requirements)

Essential Job Functions

The candidate will perform the following essential functions:

  • Conduct emergency management planning, training, exercising, assessment, and research under the direction of a project manager.
  • Complete technical writing for project work in accordance with contract scope of work.
  • Interface and communicate with clients.
  • Coordinate and assist clients with developing Emergency Operations Plans, Multi-Hazard Functional and Hazard Annexes, Pandemic Plans, Pre-Disaster Recovery Plans, and/or other plan and procedure documents in accordance with Federal and State requirements.
  • Aid in the design, development, facilitation and evaluation of tabletop, functional and full-scale exercises.
  • Support development and delivery of emergency management training, to include custom content and standard FEMA courses.
  • Review and evaluate local, State and Federal laws and regulations as they relate to disaster emergency management program elements.
  • Be familiar with the national standards guidance for preparedness.
  • Deployment to project requirements in support of client needs
  • Participate in business development activities, including writing white papers and proposals, and attending conferences and trade shows.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • 5+ years in experience in emergency management, public health, public safety, homeland security, and/or business continuity planning and operations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects in a changing work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and/or on a team.
  • Ability to work in a remote environment.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Exceptional research skills
  • Comfortable interacting with Clients
  • Highly organized, detail oriented and experienced in organizing, managing and sharing information.
  • Able to multi-task, manage priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Exhibits initiative, positive attitude and motivation.
  • Excellent phone and interpersonal skills (clients, colleagues, vendors).
  • Proficient computer skills: (including MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint; Adobe Acrobat Professional; and the ability to learn new products as needed).

Preferred Job Requirements

  • BS/BA or higher degree in related field, including but not limited to emergency management, urban planning, political science, public administration, business administration.
  • Certification(s) from professional associations or other recognized institutions
  • Experience with Teams

Work Schedule

  • This is an On-call position in support of awarded projects.
  • May require deployment to client locations in support of project activities.
  • May require irregular/extended work hours.
  • May require extended periods of time working in a computer or desk environment.
  • May have to relocate to emergency site that require functioning under moderate physical and mental stress.
