Description of Work Unit
Accounts Payable, a work unit within Business & Financial Services, exists to disburse university funds for goods and services received and to provide customer service to vendors and university personnel. Business and Financial Services exists to maintain and improve the processes which protect the financial integrity of Colorado State University, to provide periodic financial information to various users, to support University financial system users, to monitor transaction flow to assure compliance with Federal, State, and University laws, regulation, and policies, to analyze and interpret financial data as part of the overall control of University fiscal goals and concerns, and to formulate financial statements and reports in accordance with applicable laws and regulations

Position Summary
Process payable documents for Colorado State University and serve as a resource to university employees and vendors by auditing and approving universal travel vouchers, departmental purchase orders for payment following system fiscal rules and university financial procedures; approving travel documents that have been entered into the financial records system for disbursement; accessing computer files or appropriate material to provide information for university departments and vendors; provide travel training to university personnel; and serving as liaison between the university and its vendors. An extremely high volume of documents must be handled with efficiency and accuracy in a stressful atmosphere dealing with reimbursement, or potential denial, of expenses. The most important service of this position is to ensure prompt, efficient payment of expenses with accuracy and justifiability within the policies and procedures set forth through state and university rules and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications
Two years of technical accounting experience.


Substitutions
Two years of bookkeeping or technical accounting experience other than that listed may substitute for the required experience. Two years of college, university or noncorrespondence business school which included eighteen (18) semester credit hours of accounting or bookkeeping can substitute for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications
The highly desired candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities, personal characteristics, and experience directly related and critical to this position:
  • Directly related state service experience
  • Strong skills with MS Office Suite with emphasis on Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat and Teams
  • Experience working in a position where strict confidentiality is required
  • Skilled in customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated experience using financial, travel, and other computing systems such as Kuali Financial Systems.
  • Ability to work effectively at all levels of an organization both independently and as a team member
  • Strong organizational skills with demonstrated success coordinating multiple projects with attention to detail
  • Experience working with Travel reimbursement and organizational travel procedures
  • Experience working with third party vendors to resolve payment discrepancies.
