Your missions

161 Bay Street (93021), Canada, Toronto,Toronto, Ontario,

Manager & Sr. Manager, Strategy & Analytics

The Capital One way

Yes, we’re a credit card company. But we’re more than that too. We’re driven by what our customers want, and how to make their lives simpler.

We’re always looking for creative ways to offer digital solutions that make sense for our customers. With your help, we’ll build the next generation of banking in Canada based on customer-focused values, compelling products and great engineering.

Manager, Strategy & Analytics

A day in the life of a Capital One Manager, Strategy & Analytics

It’s like management consulting, but better. (Seriously)

As a Manager, Strategy & Analytics, you’re not just charged with coming up with great strategies that sound good on paper, but are asked to bring them to life through end-to-end delivery, measuring their impact through testing and monitoring, and ultimately being accountable for both P&L and customer outcomes.

You’ll lead a team of Analysts and other associates to gather and visualize data, storytell  through presentations, collaborate with experts in areas like legal and technology, and influence senior leadership on critical decisions. You’ll work with coding languages like SQL to query data, use spreadsheets and python-based notebooks to organize it, and slides to present it, along with a number of other modern analytics tools. We work in agile, cross-functional teams so you’ll also have the opportunity to learn from others like Data Scientists, Process Managers and Brand Strategists too.

You will apply your strategic and analytical skills to major company challenges. You’ll team up with world-class professionals to develop and test strategies that ultimately impact the bottom line. And you will do it all in a collaborative environment that values your insight, encourages you to take on new responsibility, promotes continuous learning, and rewards innovation.

Specific responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop business strategies that will drive growth, profitability, and competitive success for Capital One in the face of shifting consumer and regulatory demands

  • People Management: Coaching and mentoring associates with a goal of developing and retaining talent at Capital One. Lead in an inclusive work environment, where teamwork, diversity and belonging are essential.

  • Product: Develop and implement new product and pricing strategies for various lending products; lead product level modeling/analytics

  • Marketing: Develop direct-to-consumer marketing strategy and initiatives to support business growth objectives. Help build targeted insights to inform the design and development of new customer experiences, as well as breakthrough technology and concepts designed to deliver on new go to market strategies

  • Credit Risk: Support step-change improvements in credit performance by connecting drivers of future consumer credit trends to historical behaviour, creating risk models, and testing hypotheses using rigorous monitoring and analysis

  • End-to-End Delivery: Able to partner with teammates in process management, technology, data science and others in order to not just imagine great strategies on paper, but deliver them to market with quality

We are looking for big picture thinking, analytically minded team players who possess a range of strengths:

  • Strong people leadership: Ability to build and leverage the capabilities of a high-performing team, as well as business partners across the enterprise. They should foster innovation, drive critical decisions, hold business partners accountable, and be able to consistently deliver results.

  • Analytically oriented: Experience in analytical problem-solving. Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a strong quantitative orientation, given that a large part of the business is based on rigorous analytics. Have demonstrated an aptitude in learning and growing their technical skills (e.g. Excel, SQL, and/or Python). You don’t hesitate to get into the complex details of a problem and do the work alongside your team.

  • Strategically minded: A thoughtful decision maker who is able to bring actionable and grounded recommendations to senior leadership. Able to identify and synthesize business challenges and opportunities, and solve for them using analysis to make strategic or tactical recommendations.

  • Influential communicator: Ability to communicate complex ideas both verbally and in writing, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect and interpersonal skills.

  • Results oriented:  Focuses on driving impact both short and long term, and are able to drive and execute an agenda end-to-end from conception through to in-market delivery within an uncertain and fluid environment. Are not just about making recommendations, but getting stuff done.

  • A team player: Helps us achieve more than the sum of our parts by collaborating effectively with others and encouraging an inclusive culture with diverse teammates.

  • Have a successful track record of thriving in an entrepreneurial and dynamic environment. Previous consulting experience is a plus.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher

  • At least 4 years of work experience with demonstrated ability to drive business strategy from inception to implementation, working with cross-functional teams

  • At least 2 years of leadership experience (direct or indirect people / team leadership)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree preferably in Commerce, Finance, Marketing, Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics or a related field

  • A master’s degree

  • At least 2 years of direct people leadership experience

  • 4+ years of experience in a related field such as consulting or financial services

  • 4+ years of experience in data and/or quantitative analysis

At Capital One Canada the health and safety of our associates, customers and communities are our highest priorities and as a result, our offices are currently closed. When and how we transition from virtual to flexible hybrid will be guided by local government and health authority guidance.
