Job description

The Personal Injury Protection Claim Manager oversees the operation and results of a first party medical team to include PIP and medical payments. Responsible for the day-to-day administration and technical supervision of the department, as well as direct assignments, work schedules and the implementation of processes to achieve production and quality assurance.

 This manager will serve as a technical resource to subordinates and others in the organization. This manager must be able to identify positive and negative trends, create solutions and work with other members of management to implement process changes.  This manager must stay familiar with state PIP statutes, legislation, and regulatory compliance.

Essential Job Functions

  • Manage claims unit(s) to ensure specified goals are met.
  • Directly supervise a team of PIP Litigation adjusters and PIP Demand Adjusters, providing authority and guidance.
  • Provide direction to PIP team on all aspects of claims handling and claims supervision.
  • Review and evaluate file-handling process to meet company and statutory guidelines.
  • Mentor and coach associates to develop skills, increase job knowledge and achieve stated performance objectives.
  • Assist the Claims Director in setting goals and objectives for staff and make recommendations regarding quarterly and annual appraisals.
  • Management of bill review vendor
  • Ensure consistent delivery of services that meets or exceeds customer expectations and complies with regulatory and company standards
  • Ensure outside defense counsel adheres to our litigation guidelines and addresses any deficiencies
  • Update senior management on trends and unusual activity.
  • Make recommendations on litigation philosophy and strategy.
  • Responsible for team performance management/evaluations
  • Other Duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of claims investigation techniques, medical and legal aspects of claims.
  • Energetic, strategic-minded, and deeply committed to employee development and morale within a high-performance environment
  • Medical terminology, medical coding and ICD9 experience preferred
  • Ability to read, analyze, comprehend, and disseminate information from medical documents  
  • Ability to function calmly in a fast-paced environment while handling multiple priorities simultaneously with a high degree of detail 
  • Ability to deal with dynamic situations, to be able to modify plans, actions, and decisions in light of changing situations and circumstances   
  • Exceptional customer service and teamwork philosophy
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills, with attention to detail                
  • Above average computer skills with various industry software knowledge a plus  
  • Must have or secure and maintain Florida adjuster license(s) within 60 days of employment.

Years of Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience handling Florida PIP claims preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience within a Florida PIP claims department with a thorough understanding of Florida PIP pre-suit demands and litigation management required.

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
