Overview of the role

Successful candidate will be an experienced and motivated Tax Director to oversee our federal, foreign, state and local tax function which includes tax compliance, tax provisions, and planning. This role is part of a recently established Tax group and will provide opportunities for the right candidate to participate in the development of best practices, identify tax savings opportunities and reduce tax risk for the growing function.

Summary of responsibilities

  • Perform technical review of outside consultants’ work related to the following areas:
    • Federal and State Income Tax Compliance
    • Foreign Tax Compliance
    • Premium Tax Provisions and Compliance
    • Sales and Use Tax Compliance and Planning
    • Personal Property Tax Compliance
  • Collaborate with our Financial Reporting Tax Director to review quarterly and annual income tax provisions, including preparation of the cumulative loss test for valuation allowance purposes and validation of current and deferred income tax account.
  • Manage and provide information to Tax Authorities for audits.
  • Work as part of the team on other special projects, including tax planning and process improvements.
  • Supervise managers and outside consultants.

Qualifications

  • Organized professional with proven project management skills that can lead a team to complete high volume compliance obligations with an eye toward details.
  • Skilled at communicating complex matters to the Head of Tax and key executives, if necessary.
  • Effectively develops junior management and collaborates with outside consultants to achieve results.
  • Highly driven and interested in taking on challenging work while seeking out answers and solutions independently. 
  • Successful candidates adapt and thrive in a fast-paced organization and understand that duties and responsibilities are subject to change on a regular basis. 
  • Willing to pitch-in and take a hands-on approach in some situations to meet team deadlines.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills. Build interpersonal relationships within a large, complicated organization. The Tax Director will collaborate with Tax IT, Tax Advisory, Financial Reporting Team, business units and other areas to coordinate the needs of each.
  • Possess strong quantitative skills.
  • A CPA or JD is required
  • Eight plus years tax experience in public accounting or a corporate tax department. Experience with financial services or insurance companies is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Proficient in MS Office:  Excel (strong), Word, and PowerPoint
