SUMMARY

The Foundation and Grants Manager is responsible for identifying and researching appropriate grant opportunities associated with grant-seeking from private and family foundations. The Foundation and Grants Manager will compile and write funding requests, develop grant proposals, and identify prospective funding opportunities. They are responsible for all aspects of grant management, including tracking grant spending, program outcomes, final reporting, and preparing stewardship reports.

The Foundation and Grants Manager partners with colleagues from across the Foundation to identify and pursue suitable grant opportunities, collecting and synthesizing data from departments, subject matter experts, and senior leadership to complete complex and unique proposal requirements. This role highlights the Foundation’s work, impact, and singular role in the epilepsy patient advocacy space.

Utilizes all available resources to analyze prospective opportunities, including past funder grant allocations, giving patterns, and trends to determine eligibility and the best approach to position the Epilepsy Foundation with the grantmaking institution. Advises colleagues on high-potential grant-seeking opportunities that reflect the expertise and mission of the Foundation, as well as the likelihood of success. Develops and maintains a grant calendar and project management procedures to track all grant activity and timelines. Establishes a quality review process to ensure grant proposals are complete and in compliance with all requirements.

The manager will advise colleagues on best practices and help create strategies for fundraising success to achieve set revenue goals. The preferred candidate must have a thorough understanding of the grant-writing process and grant life-cycle maintenance processes while contributing to a productive, high-functioning development team.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • (25%) Conducts research to identify suitable grant opportunities.
  • (45%) Leads the planning and implementation of grant proposal writing for family and private foundations.
  • (15%) After securing grants, tracks and completes all deliverables within prescribed deadlines.
  • (15%) Updates and maintains records in Salesforce CRM.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responds to inquiries, researches, and/or directs questions to the appropriate contact, and provides exceptional customer service to colleagues and fundraising participants as the primary grant-writing subject matter expert.
  • Creates and facilitates successful grant proposals by leveraging expertise from across the Foundation.
  • Manages and continuously improves grant tracking processes.
  • Identifies software tools and vendor products to sustain and enhance grant research and prospecting processes.
  • Takes full responsibility for the finished product to ensure that it is accurate, thorough, and completed in a timely manner.
  • Provides guidance on policies and procedures for identifying, researching, and submitting grants.
  • Establishes, cultivates, and secures strong relationships and partnerships with grant-making institutions and decision-makers.
  • Assists with the management of technology vendors and all contracts/training related to them.
  • Administers new hire onboarding and orientation for any and all vendor platforms.
  • Assists with other duties and special projects, as assigned.
  • Manages basic accounting and finance tasks related to budgets and planning; communicates with finance staff.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • 2-3 years of experience in grant writing, preferably in a human health or patient advocacy capacity.
  • A minimum of 2 years of practical experience in identifying and qualifying grant-seeking opportunities.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and comfort with learning new technical systems as needed.
  • Experience with grant prospecting and tracking software.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of grant-seeking as a source of revenue and a means to strengthen the organization’s perceived role and value in the nonprofit space.
  • Understanding of basic fundraising protocols, best practices, and rules.

OTHER SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES
  • A high level of detail orientation and accuracy (checking your work for accuracy is especially important).
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments, track multiple projects simultaneously, and follow through to completion.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision on assigned duties; a sense of ownership and urgency in completing assigned job duties is essential.
  • Excellent time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Uses sound judgment and maintains strict confidentiality.
  • Additional fundraising and peer-to-peer training or experience is a plus. Knowledge or experience with special events and other fundraising areas (major gifts, corporate fundraising) is a plus.

TRAVEL, WORK ENVIRONMENT, AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • This is a full-time position, working 35 hours per week, with some flexibility and night/weekend work required due to the event schedule.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear and will need to spend extended periods staring at a computer screen and/or documents. This role also involves standing or moving around at on-site events, lifting up to 30 pounds (e.g., boxes or packages), and moving tables and chairs to set up event areas.
  • Telework privileges may be requested, in accordance with our standard telework policy. Satisfactory performance and excellent customer service must be maintained.
  • This position is expected to regularly attend Foundation meetings and training sessions.
Salary Range
  • $75,000-$80,000
