About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Technical Documentation to lead our team of technical writers. This role is pivotal in guiding our efforts to produce world-class product documentation and make it available in ways that more efficiently enable desired product outcomes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technical writing, collaboration, team management, and a passion for leveraging new technologies to enhance team efficiency and output. The candidate for this position will provide leadership to senior professional staff and will have accountability for the performance and results of multiple diverse teams. The candidate will deliver results through management and contribute primarily by ensuring that operational and functional goals are delivered upon. The candidate will set and lead the strategy of the function, delivering results in fast-changing businesses and/or regulatory environments.
Responsibilities
Manage and mentor a team of technical writers, inspiring and motivating others to high performance.
Ensure high-quality documentation and consistency across all products within the business portfolio.
Develop and implement long-term strategies for the technical writing team that considers the functional strategy, standards of excellence, and accessibility while aligning with the outcomes of a Product Operating Model.
Build relationships with colleagues outside of the department to understand the challenges facing other business functions and areas.
Network and evangelize team capabilities in order to identify new opportunities to accelerate commercial success.
Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather information and ensure accurate and comprehensive documentation.
Lead initiatives that prioritize customers and enhance the documentation user experience.
Drive the adoption of best practices and continuous improvement in technical writing and documentation within the team.
Utilize data and analytics to assess and prioritize documentation initiatives, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to meet the most critical business and customer needs.
Continuously explore and evaluate new tools and technologies, including Generative AI, to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the technical writing team.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Communications, Computer Science, or a related field.
Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in technical writing, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial role.
Proven ability to enable winning teams by managing, coaching, and developing a team.
Strong understanding of technical concepts and the ability to translate them into clear, concise documentation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Requirements
Experience in the risk solutions or related industry.
Knowledge of content management systems and documentation tools.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.
Experience working within a product-led organization and familiarity with Product Operating Models.

The salary range provided in this posting is the base salary range for Hawaii and Colorado: $113,600- 211,100 USD
The salary range provided in this posting is the base salary range for Maryland and Washington: $119,300 - 221,700 USD
The salary range provided in this posting is the base salary range for California and Washington DC: $130,700-242,800 USD
The salary range provided in this posting is the base salary range for New York and New Jersey: $125,000 - 232,000 USD
