About ACLED

 

The Armed Conflict Location & Event Data organization (ACLED) is a disaggregated data collection, analysis, and crisis mapping institution. The ACLED team collects conflict information, conducts analysis to describe, explore, and test conflict scenarios, and makes both data and analysis open for free use by the public. ACLED’s work is regularly used to inform journalism, academic research, and public discourse on conflict, and to support practitioners and policymakers. ACLED is the highest quality and most widely used real-time data and analysis source on political violence and protest around the world.

 

 

About the Role

 

Enterprise Architect is a new, exciting, and challenging role in this fast growing, data driven, young, and dynamic global non-profit organization. The successful candidate will be accountable for defining and implementing the architecture blueprints across all business verticals. This is a hands-on role and the candidate is expected to be fully conversant and experienced with all aspects of the full stack, from data and hardware to presentation layer and web services. This role also includes the formation and day-to-day leadership of the newly defined Technology & Architecture team. As the organization's main product is conflict and crisis information, the initial priority is on improving the technology architecture which underpins this core data processing. The role is fully remote and reports to the Executive Team. Candidates from US and European time zones are encouraged to apply.

Accountabilities

 

  • Produce and maintain the Technology Architecture Current State Documentation
  • Produce and maintain the Technology Architecture 3 to 5 year Blueprints and Roadmaps
  • Collaborate with the business stakeholders to ensure alignment of Technology Blueprints and Roadmaps to the Business Strategies and Plans
  • Manage and oversee the implementation of the Technology Architecture migration paths from Current State (“as is”) to the various Target States (“to be”)
  • Document and demonstrably show a reduction in the Technical Debt, year-on-year
  • Create and maintain all required Technology Architecture artefacts from Blueprints, Application to Business Function mappings, Metadata through to the Conceptual, Logical and Physical data models
  • Ensure best practice Data Governance principles are implemented as per DAMA frameworks
  • The formation and leadership of the new Technology & Architecture team
    • The technology relationship with third-party suppliers working alongside the respective business relationship owners, ensuring third-party suppliers align to Technology Architecture Blueprints
    • Development of Architectural Policies, Procedures, and Standards
    • Maintain and share awareness of emerging technologies and implement as required
    • Ensure the core data process flow has appropriate contingency and failover
    • Ensure the Technology Architecture balances risk and reward to give value for money


     

    Essential Skills

     

    • A minimum of 5 years of experience within an Enterprise Architecture role with demonstrable successful implementations
    • A clear and effective communicator, leader, and flexible team player within a global team
    • The ability to sell the benefits of technology and change to business stakeholders
    • An effective negotiator with good powers of persuasion and ability to manage differing views 
    • Successful history of running global technology teams
    • Efficient ‘can do’ approach
    • Pragmatic experience in using enterprise frameworks such as TOGAF and Zachman
    • A solid development background with experience covering all the application layers across all the phases of the development lifecycle, with focus on design and implementation, particularly within the data layer.
    • Desire to contribute to the mission of a non-profit organization focused on international conflict
    • Fluency in English

     

     

    Required Qualifications

     

    • University degree in information technology, mathematics, engineering, computer science, statistics, or a related field
