As the largest and oldest mentoring agency in the region, Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities (BBBS) has a strong foundation that supports life-changing mentoring relationships between caring adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and young people (“Littles”). Position Title: Volunteer Intake Coordinator 

Salary Range: $20.50 - $22.50/hour

Supervisor: Director of Enrollment & Matching 

Department: Enrollment & Matching

Job Type: Part Time, Non-Exempt 

Location: Remote, anywhere in the United States. 

Hours: 10-20 hours per week, daytime and evening. Flexible to your schedule and volunteer schedules 

Closing Date: Open until filled


Primary Function of the Position

The primary purpose of this position is to interview and assess potential volunteers for eligibility into the Community Based program, ensuring that our standards for documentation, data management, and risk management are upheld. 


BBBS is seeking candidates who have daytime and evening hours with flexibility to work and schedule interviews on their own time. 


Essential Job Functions

  1. Interview and assess diverse volunteers for eligibility for the program. This includes:
  • Schedule and conduct in-depth, virtual interviews
  • Provide a program orientation and overview, including volunteer expectations, the enrollment process, and next steps
  • Lead coaching conversations, applying our Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion values
  • Ensure a high-level of proficiency in applying child safety and risk management throughout all aspects of job duties 
  • Gather and review collateral information, as needed. This includes, but is not limited to, volunteer background checks, public domain search, references, counseling forms and surveys.
  • Write detailed and comprehensive assessments based on participant interviews, including objective observations, recommendations for the right match, and additional training needed
  • Complete all necessary database entries according to agency standards, with adherence to confidentiality
  • Ongoing check-in’s with supervisor for case consultations and caseload review 

2. Contribute to the mission and success of the agency

  • Adopt strengths-based perspectives when discussing specific groups or contexts, particularly those historically marginalized. 
  • Handle data from youth, families, mentors, or other constituents with care, ensuring secure and private maintenance. 
  • Stay informed about community needs, resources, and networks. 
  • Collaborate with others to achieve goals outlined in the annual business plan. 
  • Honor and respect the diversity of lived experiences, fostering an inclusive and equitable environment within the organization.
  • Represent BBBS well in the broader community. 
  • Assist in agency-wide events and initiatives including recruitment, fundraising, event management, and community outreach.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in social services or related field. Or meet one of the following qualifications:
  • Within 6 months of completing bachelor’s degree
  • AA degree and 2 years relevant work experience
  • No degree, 4 years of relevant work experience


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Experience with interviewing and assessment writing
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, make sound decisions & problem solve
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to communicate professionally with internal and external constituents
  • Goal oriented, with a strong commitment to quality and results


Physical Requirements

This role must be able to remain in a stationary position for the majority of the time.
