Principal Software Systems Engineer – Remote
As the Principal Software Systems Engineer, you will be an engineering leader for defining Allegion’s most mission-critical digital products connecting Allegion’s electromechanical locks and access control systems. The software systems team is involved in the entire product design & development life cycle, from understanding business & user needs and eliciting requirements to ensuring we deliver on measurable outcomes that delivers on our core mission to create greater satisfaction and trust in Allegion software. This role is also crucial for fostering effective, multi-disciplinary teams, mentoring team members, and evangelizing for requirements and user need driven development. The Principal Software Systems Engineer needs to be a visionary leader capable of tackling the challenges of collating and simplifying the various software journeys, building an efficient, modular, reusable set of requirements and code that pushes Allegion towards products that exceed the expectations of our customers, business partners and employees.
What You Will Do:
- Work in concert with business and technology leads to direct creative and strategic thinking focused on user needs and requirements throughout the delivery process (Discover, Concept, and Detail)
- Provide high level estimates for delivering new functionality to inform business decisions
- Lead requirement elicitation and software journey mapping with product management, design, architecture, product security teams to decompose and manage technical requirements
- Adopt a solution-oriented approach of IoT products that requires positive working relationships with design, architecture, product, and engineering functions outside of software
- Identify, analyze and communicate program risks, maintain risk register and act as a product interface lead.
- Lead Technical Design Reviews at all product development process milestones highlighting engineering progress, issues, and risks
- Lead the definition of interface control documents (ICDs), User Interface Documents, Data Definition documents for Allegion digital software and embedded software.
- Support multiple projects simultaneously by managing project timelines, balancing priorities, and implementing common requirements and SSDLC processes to effectively deliver Software deliverables.
- Provide clear communication to technical team members as well as to other leaders and managers
- Lead the management of the scope throughout the development lifecycle.
- Proactively communicate software strategy and how it relates to business objectives to all levels of the organization.
- Oversee quality and consistency of design process and deliverables
- Define principles within the team and set standards in executional and operational excellence
What You Need to Succeed:
- MS in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- 10+ years’ work experience in new product development
- You have demonstrated software systems engineering fundamental skills, including design by requirements, requirement traceability, and requirement verification and validation
- You have demonstrated experience leading project teams to deliver complex programs
- You bring strong engineering project management skills, including: planning and organization, stakeholder management, risk management, change management, and clear communication
- You can communicate effectively with both business leaders and development engineers
- You are self-directed with high initiative and high achievement goals
- You have knowledge of cybersecurity methods and protocols, experience with cloud service architectures (AWS, Azure) and mobile SDKs
- You can provide technical coaching and mentoring
- Travel requirements: 30%

Compensation: This range is provided by Allegion. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.
- The expected Base Salary Range: $193,300 - $227,150. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
