Job description

Your career is an investment that grows over time!

Wealthsimple is on a mission to help everyone achieve financial freedom by reimagining what it means to manage your money. Using smart technology, we take financial services that are often confusing, opaque and expensive and make them transparent and low-cost for everyone. We’re the largest fintech company in Canada, with over 4 million users who trust us with more than $50 billion in assets.

Our teams ship often and make an impact with groundbreaking ideas. We're looking for talented people who keep it simple and value collaboration and humility as we continue to create inclusive and high-performing teams where people can be inspired to do their best work.

About the role:

As an Associate Trader on the Securities Finance team within Capital Markets, you will be directly responsible for implementing collateral optimization strategies and working with the broader securities finance team. All of this will be done while promoting the firm’s brand and culture and providing an exceptional end-to-end client experience as we scale our business. Furthermore, you will be tasked with automating manual operational processes, work cross functionally with Treasury, Product and Operations teams to bring product offerings to market, and aid in supporting the trade desk in various front and back end projects.

This is an exciting opportunity to meaningfully contribute to a dynamic team with the momentum of a successful company and product behind you. The business is growing quickly and you will be directly accountable for its success. This is an intermediate front office role that will have a dual focus on securities finance and collateral management.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
  • Lead the collateral optimization function while collaborating with cross-functional partners across the firm
  • Contribute to the day-to-day securities finance operations on the Trade Desk including order execution, inventory management, and risk governance
  • Identify revenue opportunities via assessment of market data reports, communication with institutional partners, and optimal inventory management
  • Manage counterparty relationships and ensure that stakeholder accountabilities are fulfilled
  • Measure, track and improve trading workflow between front office, middle office and settlements teams
  • Troubleshoot breakdowns in daily functions, identify blockers and implement solutions to resolve issues
  • Create new and optimize existing business processes to improve our productivity, increase efficiency, reduce errors and minimize transactional/opportunity costs
  • Implement and monitor metrics for critical operational processes and trading operations

  • Skills we're looking for:
  • Minimum two years of experience within the collateral management/securities finance industry
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Coachable and ability to work within a fast paced team-first environment
  • Quick thinker, adept at calculating and interpreting financial data on the fly
  • Nimble and adaptable; able to think outside the box and shift one’s mindset as market conditions change without notice
  • Deep understanding of the trade life cycle from execution to settlement
  • Fundamental grasp of financial markets including why investors seek to pursue specific opportunities and what they require to achieve them
  • Understanding and empathetic to the challenges of scaling a business, but excited to tackle them
  • A willingness to lead initiatives; a self-starter who is confident in building out processes both independently and collaboratively
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or related field
  • Experience with SQL and Excel is an asset
  • Fixed income market knowledge is an asset
  • CIRO registration an asset
  • Deadline to apply: December 31st 5pm EST
