The Who, What, Where, When & Why

OMS are looking for an experienced professional or advocate with expertise in Autism/Neurodivergence. Ideally, you have experience across acute care settings with both children and adults, bringing practical knowledge and compassion to your work. You will work with our Authoring team to advise on the creation of virtual scenarios for nursing students focused on neurodivergence (initially autism).. By partnering with us, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping training content, ensuring it meets clinical standards and represents the needs of the healthcare workforce and autistic population.

This is an ad-hoc contract role, beginning with a concentrated period of work to lay the groundwork for the project. As the project progresses, you’ll engage in regular communication to answer follow-up questions, review updates, and provide feedback by playing through the scenarios to ensure they meet the highest standards.

Who you are:

We are open to various backgrounds, including:

  • Healthcare professionals such as Nurses, Midwives, Physicians, or Acute Care Physiotherapists.

  • Experienced patient advocates, including caregivers, parents, or individuals with firsthand experience navigating acute healthcare as a person with autism.

  • You have a solid understanding of the challenges faced by neurodivergent individuals in healthcare settings and are passionate about improving outcomes through innovative training.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Advise on the design of  scenarios focused on people with autism

  • Collaboratively review the content with the OMS clinical authoring team to ensure that:
    • Scenarios meet the needs of the nursing and wider healthcare workforce

    • Content is based on latest best-practice guidelines

    • The neurodivergent characters and/or their carers are accurately represented.
