Director of Software Engineering 

The Art of Education University (AOEU) is a mission-driven organization committed to empowering K-12 educators with a software platform that provides a visual arts curriculum and on-demand professional development. 

POSITION DETAILS

As the Director of Software Engineering at AOEU, you will lead a team of highly talented engineers to design software solutions that meet the growing needs of teachers across the country. You’ll collaborate closely with the Product and Content teams to build transformative new product features as well as ensure our systems are capable of long-term growth. This role requires a mix of technical expertise, leadership, and a passion for making a measurable impact that aligns with AOEU's mission.

We have been a 100% remote company since the beginning!  This position is eligible to remote work from the following locations: USA.

The Details 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Manage and mentor a team of engineers, fostering a culture of growth, collaboration, and accountability while promoting a healthy work-life balance to support well-being and productivity.
  • Work closely with leaders across the organization to create an engineering roadmap that supports the business and product strategy.
  • Oversee the execution, completion, and production release of software projects.
  • Act as a bridge between Product and Engineering by evaluating requirements for clarity and technical feasibility to ensure proper scoping and prioritization of work.
  • Participate in technical planning and architectural decisions while helping the team make smart tradeoffs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong understanding of SaaS, cloud technologies, and modern web development practices
  • Experience with SDLC methodologies (agile, shape-up, etc.)
  • Proven track record of delivering complex software projects
  • Excellence in cross-functional communication and stakeholder management

EXPERIENCE
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to view computer screens for significant periods of time. The Art of Education University is an online university therefore 95-98% of one’s time will be on or using technology.
  • Ability to use a laptop keyboard with accuracy.
  • Ability to hear at normal levels and through electronic devices such as laptops, earbuds, phones, and the like.

COMPENSATION

This role offers a base salary range commensurate with experience and geographic market. We will discuss compensation early in the process.

  • Step 1: ~30-minute phone interview with the hiring manager
  • Step 2: Virtual onsite interview
  • Step 3: Follow-up interview
    • For certain managerial or high-collaboration roles, you may be asked to participate in an additional Zoom interview.
