Job description

Job Description

Fugro’s onshore and nearshore civil engineering business manages ground and subsurface risk for the business benefit of our clients across a wide range of projects in the renewable and conventional energy, building, infrastructure, coastal and minerals, and metals industries.  In the US, this business is organized around three service lines, site characterization (geophysics, in-situ probing, and drilling); consulting; and testing and monitoring, each led by an experienced geo-professional.  We have offices throughout Texas, California, and Louisiana.  Fugro strongly focuses on safety management, technical leadership, innovation, and building genuine long-term relationships with our clients across the private and public sectors.

This role can function fully remotely.

The Opportunity:

Over several decades Fugro has developed geotechnical tools and capabilities for soft soils that are particularly suited to the best management of the safety of Tailings Facilities.  We continuously innovate with remote sensing technologies, advanced in-situ testing tools, and specialist samplers to meet the challenges of characterizing tailings materials.  These capabilities have allowed us to develop strong competitive positions in the minerals and metals industry in South America.  Are you up to the challenge of leading the expansion of our business in this sector initially in the US and subsequently throughout North America?  You will work closely with Fugro’s Director of Strategy and Sales, who is based in Houston and will be expected to interact frequently with peers in our South American business in Chile and Brazil.  You will be responsible for identifying business opportunities in the metals and minerals industry sector, soliciting requests for proposals, and working closely with our commercial team to prepare winning proposals and close out contract awards. You will be self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision.  We’ll provide the support you need, but you’ll have the autonomy to lead all aspects of business development for this market sector as part of an enthusiastic and dynamic team.

Job Requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States, without restrictions.
  • Possess or able to obtain a valid passport.
  • Have a Master’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Possess a minimum of 15 years of experience in the Tailings geotechnical engineering industry, preferably gained across both field operations and design and consulting activities.
  • Experience working in a consulting or engineering organization, with Tailings facility assessment.
  • Sales and/or business development experience.
  • Willing and able to travel both domestically and internationally, as needed.

We’re looking for the following attributes:

  • A strategic vision for Fugro within the metals and minerals industry sector in the US combining growth and financial return.
  • A positive and growth mindset with a focus on industry-leading stakeholder returns with a passion for success and customer delight.
  • A passion for developing new client relationships, and high customer intimacy with a proven capability for building strong repeat business long-term relationships.
  • Strong proposal management skills including pricing, and a solutions-oriented approach to Clients’ challenges.
  • Outgoing and confident communicator.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent teamwork skills.
  • An untiring focus on and commitment to the highest standards of Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Performance.
  • Recognized for thought leadership in geotechnical engineering within the sector.
  • A commitment to self-learning and development including publication of papers and presentations at conferences.
