About the role

Marketplace efficiency is critical to deliver the best possible customer experience on the platform which then fuels a virtuous Growth Flywheel for the marketplace. The Marketplace team is responsible for building and managing Careem’s complex multi-sided marketplace, ensuring efficiency, reliability, and affordability while delivering a best-in-class experience for all stakeholders—End Users, Captains, and Merchants.

As the Head of Product - Marketplace, you will drive the strategy, development, and execution of critical demand shaping, supply shaping capabilities, ensuring seamless fulfillment and delivery experiences that match our commitment to reliability.

Your role will be pivotal in balancing supply-demand dynamics, optimizing delivery through advanced telemetry & data science models, and developing scalable solutions for our zonal and mixed fleet models. You will work cross-functionally to build products that improve operational efficiency, empower our captains (delivery partners), and unlock profitability while ensuring every delivery promise is met with precision.

What you'll do

Leadership

  •  Provide mentorship and guidance to Senior Product Managers (SPMs) and Lead Product Managers (LPMs) across areas such as:
  •  Demand Shaping, Supply Shaping & Optimization, Pricing and Captain/Supply Utilization
    • Pricing, Fulfillment & Health, Routing & ETA optimization.

  • Drive a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence within the Marketplace team.

Zonal Supply Planning

  • Develop and implement data-driven supply planning strategies to maintain real-time demand-supply balance across zones.

  • Collaborate with operations and logistics teams to ensure adequate captain availability in high-demand areas.

Pooling & Mixed Fleet Fulfillment

  • Lead the development of scalable pooling models to optimize shared resource allocation for faster deliveries.

  • Build and refine mixed fleet fulfillment strategies to factor in traffic, order size, and location for efficient delivery operations.

  • Introduce multimodal fleet solutions to enhance flexibility and improve delivery times.

Supply-Aware ETAs & Optimization

  • Implement dynamic, supply-aware ETA systems informed by real-time captain availability and telematics data.

  • Continuously improve ETA accuracy using advanced telematics and routing algorithms.

Advanced Traffic and Routing Systems

  • Build and manage AI-driven traffic and routing systems to predict congestion and optimize delivery times.

  • Ensure seamless route planning for captains, leveraging real-time traffic data and historical trends.

Fulfillment Monitoring and Interventions

  • Design and deploy real-time fulfillment monitoring systems to ensure delivery promises are met.

  • Develop dashboards and tools for logistics teams to dynamically respond to challenges in fulfillment operations.

Captain Experience & Fleet Growth

  • Enhance captain experience by improving earnings through strategic supply positioning and fair pricing models.

Customer and Partner-Centric Focus

  • Ensure customer promises are kept by implementing efficient supply and fulfillment strategies.

  • Collaborate with customer support, logistics, and platform teams to align product solutions with customer needs and captain experiences.

Core Metrics

  • Supply/Demand (S/D) Metric: Quantify supply-demand balance within specific zones and timeframes.

  • Merchant/Demand (M/D) Metric: Measure the alignment between merchant capacity and demand.

Enabling Capabilities

  • Supply Shaping: Tools like Heatmaps, Spot Bonuses, and Shift Zones.

  • Demand Shaping: Features like Dynamic Discovery Radius and Spot Promos.

  • Pricing & Fulfillment: Advanced pricing models, allocation, and routing optimization systems.

What you'll need

  • Proven experience leading teams in product management, operations, or logistics, with expertise in managing complex marketplaces.

  • Strong data-driven decision-making skills and ability to leverage AI/ML models for optimization.

  •  Strategic thinker with a focus on execution, customer-centric innovation, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred; Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or Business.
