Summary:
Reporting to the Manager, Product Lifecycle Management and working remotely and/or at The Hershey Company’s Technical Center, the Senior Recipe Specialist position is the subject matter expert (SME) on the ZWIP (unwrapped food) specs and recipes. The Sr. Recipe Specialist will provide PLM project leadership on medium to high complexity projects. Additionally, they will lead an assigned project pillar, and large team projects and initiatives. A successful candidate is expected to effectively communicate project updates to cross-functional team members, managers and Sr. leadership. This candidate must be willing to travel up to 15%.
Specific role focus area:
- Supports R&D and Continuous Improvement by accurately creating new ZWIP Specifications, Experimental, General and Plant recipes in PDM and routing system workflows · Makes changes to existing specs and/or recipes with new data and workflow approvals
- Provide support to R&D Scientists and project leaders loading their own recipes · Support any migration issue resolution and data enrichment of existing recipes and specifications
- Manage the configuration of recipe data with the intention of keeping recipes, bill of materials, and actual production aligned across manufacturing sites Work cross-functionally to expedite the flow of work and materials within the PDM Engineering Records (ER’s) according to project management timelines
- Independently prioritize work to meet or exceed project timelines · Compile reports on product creation/change progress of work, key decisions and problems/opportunities
- Uphold the Company data standards which requires engaging key stakeholders to ensure recipes are aligned to new product structure

Summary of major duties:
- Management of Product Recipes in Product Data Management (PDM)
- Manages the creation and maintenance of Hershey’s new multi-layer, general & plant ZWIP recipes and specifications in the Product Data Management (PDM) system according to the Accolade project decisions, Product Development expectations, and Engineering Record assumptions.
- Validate the inputs, quantities, units of measure, outputs, and any associated key data attributes as they create full product recipes.
- Manages materials within recipes (both general and plant specific) to represent manufacturing processes and production confirmation points to support product costing, co-manufacturing, and an expanding level of agile supply chain strategies
- Champion and facilitate appropriate use of the recipe data
- Verify all product changes have a Product Engineering Record used for development.
Creation of Product Specifications from Recipes
- Requests new materials to complete the specifications and subsequent recipes while ensuring to keep or expand the product data standards established for multi-layer recipes
- Leverage the PDM tool to establish Specifications for each level of the recipe according to data standards. Confirm the specifications are established in line with data standards
- Champion and facilitate appropriate use of the specification data
- Maintain Shelf-Life data for relevant ZWIP General Recipe layers which supports inventory and order management needs
- Subject matter expert on general recipe specifications derived from general recipes
Bill of Materials Preparation
- Analyze final recipes for completeness and correctness to ensure delivery of first-time correct recipe content to ensure no changes are required in downstream Bill of Materials and Product Costing steps.
- Authorize release of recipe data through PDM to the Product Change Specialists for both the creation of Labels and the Recipe to Bill of Material Sync step
- Champion and facilitate appropriate use of the data that fall within the respective domain.
- Data Validation and Quality Review
- Upholds the Company data standards for recipes, ZWIP specifications, and bill of material which requires engaging stakeholders across R&D, Global Business Services (GBS), Supply Chain, and the Commercial groups
- Process expert on recipes and specifications. Engages with project teams during system and process improvements to ensure appropriate use of recipe and specification data.
- Identifies process and system gaps, recommends, solutions to address and supports implementation of improvements
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities:
- Functional & Domain Knowledge – product recipes, materials & specifications (preferred)
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes with a working knowledge of recipe development, materials management, bill of materials, and product costing (preferred)
- Drive for process excellence combined with systems orientation
- High level of organization and attention to detail, including process and data compliance
- Ability to work in a team environment and independently in a flexible work environment with changing priorities
- Reporting & KPI measurement
- SAP / Tool Knowledge
- Excellent communication, written and critical thinking skills
- Microsoft O365 suite
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Education and Experience: B.S. in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry or related field with 4-6 years experience in R&D, Product Development or Nutrition preferred.
Preferred Experiences:
- 1-2+ years of systems related work experience, preferably in Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)
- 4-6 years of business experience
- Product Data Management (PDM) experience
- Working knowledge or SAP Recipe Development, including ingredient statement builder and labeling
