Job Summary:

 

The Senior Accountant is responsible for sales/payroll tax processes and analysis, general ledger accountability with a focus on balance sheet accounting and other special projects as assigned.  A successful Senior Accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts. This position reports to the Accounting Manager.

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

  • Serve as company expert on sales and payroll taxes, regulatory compliance and registrations
  • Lead state sales tax audit processes and interaction with auditors
  • Research, educate and optimize all processes related to sales and payroll tax compliance and setup
  • Maintain all external systems and accesses to agency, state, federal sites required for tax, registration and regulatory filings/processes
  • Reconciliation of general ledger accounts
  • Comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Ensure NetSuite / Avalara system is setup and operating appropriately for sales tax calculations
  • Function to minimize adverse audit/compliance impacts and maintain proactive approach to risk management and problem solving
  • Assist with financial audits as part of the accounting team
  • Manage general ledger accounts and own related month-end and year-end close processes
  • Ensure compliance with all internal processes

Required Qualifications: 

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Minimum 8 years relevant work experience in accounting 
  • NetSuite accounting software and Avalara sales tax experience required
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, filters, macros and complex formulas)
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
  • Ability to function well in a team-oriented environment
