Position Summary

IREX is implementing a project in South and South East Asia. The Bahasa-English translator will provide simultaneous translation from Bahasa to English and vice versa. The position is open to all qualified applicants.

IREX will prioritize local nationals based in Indonesia or the South Asia and South East Asia region (e.g. Thailand, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka) with a previous experience of translating to and from Indonesian, as well as a ideally some prior knowledge and understanding of the region’s media landscape, and holistic safety.

Please note this position is a remote position (with occasional travel) and part time with an expected approximate 30 working days per year.

 Duties and Responsibilities

• Provision of clear, accurate and technically correct simultaneous interpretation from English to Indonesian and from Indonesian to English, both for in-person and virtual/remote activities;
• On occasion, provision of written language translation of handouts and curricula;
• Participation in and contribution to activity debriefs and routine team meetings.

 Skills and Experience

• Demonstrated experience in providing translation and interpretation from English to Bahasa Indonesia and from Bahasa Indonesia to English;
• Former experience translating for training programs is preferred;
• Knowledge of the South and South East Asia media and civil society landscape is preferred;
• Knowledge and understanding of holistic safety is preferred;
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain relationships;
• Excellent communicator and mentor in face-to-face meetings as well as in remote/online settings;
• Ability to communicate and train across different cultures; and
• Valid passport and travel permission, for potential international travel.

IREX may hire more than one applicant/expert from this call. IREX reserves the right, based on availability of funding and consultant performance, to increase the duration and/or enter into subsequent contractual agreements with the selected candidates without re-publicizing the opportunity, for a period of up to three years.
