POSITION SUMMARY: Thorne is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Sales Training and Enablement to lead the development and execution of a comprehensive sales training and enablement strategy that empowers our sales team to achieve optimal performance. With professional customers driving annual sales exceeding $350 million through Thorne’s HCP and Sports Salesforce, the Director of Sales Training and Enablement will play a critical role in exponentially growing this number through strategic training, development initiatives, and sales enablement programs. This role will focus heavily on equipping the sales team with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to exceed targets, foster strong internal relationships, and ensure alignment with Thorne’s overall business goals.
In addition to sales training and enablement, this role will collaborate with medical affairs, and HR to contribute to company-wide leadership development, professional development pathways, and culture-building initiatives that foster a high-performance environment across all functions of the company.
RESPONSIBILITIES – Satisfactorily performing and/or achieving the following Responsibilities are essential duties of the job.
- Strategic Leadership & Account Management
- Lead the day-to-day execution of sales training and enablement within the Salesforce platform for the professional market to achieve stated objectives.
- Identify and prioritize strategic and high-potential accounts within the existing customer database, allocating resources to grow these accounts according to yearly goals via training, development and improving selling efficiency.
- Collaborate with the sales leadership team and sales reps to ensure a smooth transition from new revenue to established accounts, with timelines varying by size and industry.
- Coordinate joint promotional efforts with partners and third parties to enhance market reach and growth.
- Establish and manage third-party alliances and partnerships to expand Thorne’s domestic business, as directed by the Head of Sales.
- Promote the company’s mission and values, including fostering an accountable, innovative, and results-oriented culture that emphasizes customer service, openness, teamwork, mutual trust, and respect.
- Team Leadership & Talent Development
- Along with sales leadership, build and lead a high-performing sales team, securing top talent and providing ongoing development, coaching, and feedback.
- Direct and oversee the onboarding, training, and development of new members of the HCP and Sports sales teams to ensure readiness for success.
- Continuously lead the training and development of existing sales team members, ensuring they stay aligned with company goals and industry advancements.
- Conduct formal and informal performance assessments, measuring performance versus expectations and goals, behaviors, and leadership potential. Seek similar feedback and assessments for self-development.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth, focusing on developing future leaders within the sales organization.
- Sales & Market Expansion Initiatives
- Collaborate with Medical Affairs and sales leadership to develop and implement a best-in-class medical education program that meets the needs of professional customers and expands the use of Thorne products.
- Work closely with the marketing department to drive customer education initiatives, new programs, and communications that grow revenue.
- Coordinate with internal departments, including U.S. sales teams, executive management, and Somerville support functions, ensuring open and proactive communication to align on business goals.
- Cross-functional Collaboration & Communication
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with Thorne executives and key functions to support alignment and execution of strategic objectives.
- Ensure ongoing, clear communication between the U.S. sales team and leadership, fostering collaboration across all levels and functions within the organization.
- Development and Compliance
- Actively participate in required training and development programs and electives that support personal growth, while also assisting colleagues, trainers, and management in these efforts.
- Ensure that all employees within the sales function are engaged in development opportunities that align with their career path and the company’s objectives.
- Able to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and the required automobile insurance coverage limits in the state of residence. Must also be able to drive an automobile with or without reasonable accommodation.
EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES / PROFICIENCIES – Satisfactorily achieving and/or meeting the following Experience, Competencies, and Proficiencies are essential duties of the job:
- Experience and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, MD, ND, or PhD is a plus.
- 15+ years of professional experience in sales/marketing with a demonstrated track record of success.
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt, particularly in understanding the dietary supplement marketplace, related promotional practices, and clinical applications of products sold by Thorne.
- Strong foundational knowledge of sales, marketing, and training functions and associated processes.
- Sales and Business Acumen:
- Demonstrated success in identifying sales opportunities, weaknesses, strengths, and developing strategies to grow sales in all our customer segment verticals in HCP and Sports and Human Performance.
- Proven expertise in leading the training, development and execution of transformational sales strategies.
- Strong ability to develop and deliver on business objectives within requested timeframes.
- Experience in building, developing, training, educating, motivating, and managing high-performance sales teams and strong customer engagement and partnerships.
- Outstanding performance in sales, marketing, training with a focus on driving growth.
- Leadership and Management:
- Extensive experience in interacting with all levels within and outside the company.
- Proven ability to supervise, manage, and delegate tasks, ensuring proper follow-up on work assignments.
- Strong talent assessment skills, including hiring/training new staff, identifying market trends and training opportunities, conducting performance evaluations, and addressing non-performance where appropriate.
- Collaborative team player, capable of working cooperatively with leaders in other departments.
- Technical Skills and Proficiencies:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CRM applications, and PowerBI.
- Ability to quickly learn and demonstrate the use of Thorne’s technology platforms and others used by professional customers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to document and present work in a clear, concise manner.
- Adept at working independently with minimal oversight, while effectively raising issues and concerns as needed.
