POSITION SUMMARY
We are currently looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer I that will support the North America Airports Solutions team.
Vanderlande’s Airports Engineering Team is responsible for the concepting, designing, and specifying material handling equipment. In this position you will work in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative customer-focused environment to determine and translate customer needs into simple and effective design solutions. In this position, you will be working with an engineering project team in the development of baggage handling systems. You will be responsible for ensuring the designs meet the customer requirements, are coordinated with other trades to minimize conflicts during installation, can be installed with efficiency, and maintain excellent communication with the site team.
Success in this role involves the ability to balance the technical requirements of the role while also having the soft skills to collaborate with and motivate the engineering team. It also involves working closely with stakeholders from other disciplines and other departments to balance priorities, improve processes and satisfy a complex set of goals. Success will require strong technical skills, creativity, strong interpersonal skills, drive, and passion. A successfully candidate will demonstrate a keen intuition for when to attempt to solve problems on their own and when to enlist the help of other experienced leaders.
Responsibilities:
Project Management: Create detailed mechanical plans, generate equipment specifications, and support equipment delivery & installation. Participate in project planning and execution, contributing to achieving positive outcomes for technical performance, financial results, and the organization. Assist in mechanical aspects of project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
Technical Expertise: Demonstrate a solid understanding of mechanical project engineering principles, material handling products, system design, quality assurance, construction management, structural considerations, and BIM tools (AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, Bluebeam Revu, etc.). Help lead the design & analysis of complex mechanical systems.
Coordination and Collaboration: Work effectively with cross-functional teams, collaborate with other trades, understand stakeholder needs, and coordinate layouts & engineering instructions on-site. Provide guidance to layout and mechanical engineers. Work effectively with internal teams (engineering leadership, project management, supply chain, sales) and external partners.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement based on lessons learned. Contribute to product, process, and tooling enhancements.
Quality Control: Conduct thorough reviews of drawings, system models, and mechanical designs to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards. Ensure proper document control.
Documentation and Reporting: Create and maintain detailed project documentation (including customer submittals, best practices, existing site conditions, as built redlines, and installation files).
Compliance and Safety: Ensure adherence to local/international building codes, participate in safety risk analyses, and comply with OSHA standards.
Client and Subcontractor Interaction: Collaborate with clients, subcontractors, and other project leads. Coordinate customer requests and submittals.
Project Budget Management: Assist in monitoring, reporting, and controlling budgets for mechanical equipment and engineering hours.
Sharing Technical Expertise: Contribute to technical discussions on quotations and project changes, supporting the Systems and Sales departments.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
3-5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in a multi-disciplinary environment.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite and relevant engineering software (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.).
Strong understanding of systems integration & material handling principles, system behavior, and industry standards.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on learning and development.
Adaptability and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
