What you'll be doing

Capital Markets Risk Management (CMRM) maintains multiple systems which ingest data from upstream internal, and external sources, as well as derive and calculate data for use within both CMRM’s daily function, and for other purposes within the wider bank.  Data Governance is a critical part of CIBC’s strategic objectives over the coming years, with a project in flight to enhance existing data governance tools towards an enterprise-wide approach.   Effective data governance requires a detailed understanding of both the data that CMRM uses, and the systems that the bank has in place.

The Director, Data Governance will ensure that CMRM achieve and maintain compliance with the enterprise standards for data governance; in addition, they will define and implement requirements at a CMRM level to ensure that data governance processes continue to support CMRM’s operational and reporting objectives. The Director will partner with colleagues across Risk Management, Capital Markets and Technology partners to ensure that CMRM’s systems and processes implement appropriate data governance and provide adequate visibility of data issues to CMRM stakeholders. In addition, the Director will lead tracking and path to resolution of all data and data governance related issues observed in CMRM’s systems that require resolution either within CMRM or by upstream stakeholders. Finally, the Director will have a detailed understanding of the data systems used by Capital Markets Risk Management groups at both operational and logical levels and leverage that understanding to propose enhancements to data governance tools.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you'll succeed

  • Project Management- Engage with ‘business as usual’ streams and project initiatives to ensure that intra-system data sharing is appropriately documented and controlled Facilitate annual review of existing data-sharing documentation between systems and users, and ensure currency, completeness, and re-approvals (e.g. for SLA’s) Ensure that Data governance is visible to all stakeholders, both in terms of issues and in ongoing quality through daily operations.
