Job description

Job Description

Title:                    Translation Consultant (French)

Agency:               Plan International

Location:             Home-based

Time period:      November 2024 – January 2025

Background

Plan works for girls’ rights. Harmful barriers like child marriage, human trafficking and gender-based violence are preventing girls and young women from achieving their full potential. Plan, along with government and private partners, fights against harmful gender norms and empowers young people to create positive change in their communities. We have worked in communities for more than 80 years and provide locally-driven programming through 240 offices around the world. Plan International is fully committed to the safeguarding of all children and young people from all forms of violence.

Plan International is currently implementing a two-year, global-level child protection in humanitarian action (CPHA) project funded by USAID/BHA. The project is focused on developing and testing global-level guidance for CPHA programming and will have several key deliverables that will require translation, including translation of newly developed resources and revisions of existing resources.

Scope of the Work

The Translation Consultant will be responsible for translating the CP-FS Program Toolkit and any other related documents from English to French. The Consultant will also be responsible for revising the existing translation of the Primary Prevention Framework for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action and newly developed accompanying resources.

The Translation Consultant will work closely with Plan International’s Associate Director, Humanitarian Programs, as well as with the Prevention Advisor and Child Protection and Food Security Specialist to update on progress, report any challenges, and troubleshoot solutions.

The Translation Consultant is responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Agreed upon work plan and timeline for completion of the consultancy
  • First draft of the translated CP-FS Program Toolkit, with adherence to the preferred Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action (the Alliance) and global Food Security Cluster terminology
  • First draft of revisions to the Primary Prevention Framework and newly developed resources, with adherence to the preferred terminology of the Alliance.
  • Estimated number of words: 40,000
  • Estimated number of pages: 150 pages (some of which will be PowerPoint slides).
  • Revision and final draft based on review feedback

Requirements

  • Demonstrated translation skills in French
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Strong organizational and work prioritization skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to solve problems independently without direct supervision
  • Patient, adaptable, flexible, able to improvise and remain responsive under pressure
  • Experience in translation of child protection, food security, or humanitarian subject matter

To Apply:

If you are interested in applying for this position, please submit your resume, rate, and a translation of the below excerpt from the CP-FS Program Framework instead of a cover letter:

“Child Protection and Food Security Integrated Programming

Integrated programming allows two or more sectors work together to achieve a shared program outcome. It requires Child Protection and Food Security sectors to deliberately work together to conduct assessments and to plan, design, implement, and monitor programs. A holistic understanding of child well-being is the starting point for any action. Integrated programming recognizes that no single sector that operates in a humanitarian crisis has the full knowledge, skills, and resources to fully prevent and respond to children’s needs and promote children’s rights and well-being.

Integrated child protection and food security programming aims to achieve both child protection and food security outcomes and relies on the unique expertise and capacities of both sectors.

An example of an integrated Child Protection and Food Security program targets food insecure households with cash assistance and positive parenting training in order to improve access to food and caregivers capacity to cope with stressful situations.”
