Job description

The Role:

Moderna is looking for a Senior Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis aligned to our Individualized Neoantigen Therapies (INT). This role is a unique opportunity to join Moderna on its mission to deliver on the promise of mRNA science, creating a new generation of transformative medicines. The Senior Manager, FP&A for INT will be a key member of the finance team, reporting directly to the Head of Finance INT. This position will focus on tactical financial planning and analysis activities, emphasizing operational costs that will drive Cost of Goods Manufactured and Sold, as well as Capital and Technology projects, all while demonstrating an owner’s mindset and contributing beyond defined responsibilities.

The ideal candidate is a finance professional with meticulous attention to detail and strong analytical skills, who thrives in a fast-paced environment, acts with urgency, and can manage multiple priorities. This role will work closely with INT leadership, bringing actionable insights and pushing past possible to support day-to-day operations. The position also requires close collaboration with our CMC Finance and cost accounting teams, always ready to pivot fearlessly in the face of new data and continuously learn to make an impact.

Here’s What You Will Do:

  • Lead the FP&A function for CMC INT, managing monthly/quarterly financial deliverables, including internal and collaboration reporting, and supporting the month-end close process through the execution of financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail

  • Collaborate with cost accounting to evaluate Bill of Material (BOM) components and behave like an owner in leading coordination efforts to ensure accuracy of BOM builds

  • Partner with procurement to track progress on savings efforts across each part number and consumable, always pushing past possible and identifying opportunities to innovate on cost-saving measures

  • Develop and maintain financial models that support detailed analysis for CMC INT operations, assisting in effective decision-making for daily operational needs, while demonstrating your ability to pivot fearlessly and evaluate data from multiple sources to present the best options for today’s needs and tomorrow’s goals

  • Prepare and deliver financial reports and presentations for CMC INT management, ensuring detailed insights and actionable recommendations and obsess over learning to continuously refine reporting processes and insights to maximize their impact

  • Lead capital budgeting, tracking, and expenditure reporting for CMC INT projects, both for internal and collaboration reporting purposes while questioning convention in ensuring investment decisions fuel future growth

  • Work closely with internal teams to manage budgetary priorities and collaborate with Accounting and Tax teams to ensure proper accruals and accurate capital reporting

Here’s What You Will Need (Basic Qualifications):

  • 6+ years of progressive experience in related field, including financial planning & analysis, and/or financial operations roles

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Experience with finance in the Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology industry, exposure to cost accounting, advanced analytical tools, and visualization programs

  • Strong business acumen: proven ability to effectively scrutinize and challenge assumptions and interpret the strategy and priorities of the organization in financial terms

  • Understanding of operational dynamics and the external environment

  • MBA and/or CPA preferred

  • High level of attention to detail, with a proven ability to manage detailed financial processes

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a tactical, day-to-day environment

  • Strong analytical and presentation skills to convey precise financial information to CMC INT leaders

  • Ability to operate effectively with dynamic range in a matrixed organization, working closely with related teams to achieve financial goals

  • Flexibility to adapt to evolving business needs with a focus on tactical support and operational alignment

  • This role is expected to be in office 70% of the time with flexibility to work from home up to 30%.
