As a Systems Engineer, you’ll be responsible for building, integrating, and troubleshooting Linux infrastructure as well as ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the information systems that support the entire portfolio of companies that comprise Rocket Companies. An ideal candidate has a deep understanding of Linux operating systems, an automation-first mentality, learns quickly and thinks outside the box with familiar and unfamiliar technologies.
About the Role
A team member in this role will be part of our Platform Engineering team, helping drive vision and strategy for the Linux platform as well as managing day-to-day operations. A typical day could include:
- Troubleshooting a connection between a database and a web server
- Building and deploying playbooks for common infrastructure patterns and standards.
- Setting/championing standards for things like alerting, vulnerability management, and a variety of other activities related to the configuration and health of the operating system.
While Linux is the primary focus of this role, a team member in this position can work on a wide variety of other operating systems and infrastructure technology depending on the needs of the business and their own desires.
Core Responsibilities
- Collaborate with application teams and other infrastructure engineers to build, maintain, and troubleshoot infrastructure in our private and public clouds using a wide array of proprietary and open-source technologies.
- Install, support, and configure systems or applications that make our team members productive.
- Partner with the business and other technology teams to develop, champion, and support new technologies.
- Develop automation to handle complex, time-consuming workflows and processes.
- Write documentation and record knowledge of systems that the team supports.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
About You
Minimum Qualifications
- Deep knowledge of Linux-based operating systems (Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, Rocky, Alma, SUSE, Ubuntu, Debian).
- Configuration and management
- Security
- Performance tuning/monitoring
- Troubleshooting.
- Firm grasp of Ansible and/or Bash (preferred) or another configuration/scripting/programming language like Python, Terraform, PowerShell, C#/.NET, etc.
- Thorough understanding of computer networking (DHCP, DNS, HTTP, TCP/UDP, IPv4/IPv6, OSI model) and load balancing.
- Understands physical hardware and infrastructure architecture in a data center environment.
- Understands client-server architecture with relation to web/app servers, databases, load balancers, and other infrastructure platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Prior experience working in a customer-facing role and/or helpdesk.
- Working knowledge of any of the following: VMware, Redis and/or other caching technologies, Splunk, Azure DevOps, Active Directory, PowerBI, Dynatrace, ServiceNow, or PagerDuty.
- Knowledge of agile development and delivery processes.
- Experience working with a continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) platform like CircleCI, Jenkins, Octopus Deploy, or GitHub Actions. Alternatively, experience with a job scheduling/orchestration platform like Rundeck or Tidal.
- Working knowledge of other operating systems and platforms like Windows Server.

Colorado, New York City, Jersey City, California, D.C and Washington Candidates Only. The salary range for this position is seventy thousand dollars to one hundred forty-seven thousand five hundred dollars.
