Position Title: BESS Technical Trainer
The Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Technical Trainer is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering specialised training programs for the design, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of BESS technologies. The role is critical for ensuring that customers, technical teams, and operations & maintenance personnel have the necessary skills to safely and effectively design, maintain, and manage BESS.
The Technical Trainer requires a deep understanding of electrical power conversion, and controls systems, ideally with experience in BESS. Excellent communication and organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal and customer teams are essential for success in this role.
If you have a strong background in electrical power conversion engineering, particularly in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) or within the utility power industry, this could be an excellent opportunity to transition into a rewarding training role. We’re looking for someone with the technical expertise and industry experience to guide and develop others, making a meaningful impact by sharing your knowledge and skills. You’ll also need to be confident and comfortable delivering training, whether in a classroom setting or one-on-one.


Responsibilities
  • Internal
  • Design and develop comprehensive technical training programs according to organisational requirements, including presentations, manuals, and assessments.
  • Work closely with the Operations Improvement Team, HR, and Functional Leads in developing a Skills and Competency Matrix for Personnel.
  • Create both in-person and online training modules in various formats (classroom, virtual, one-on-one) to cater to different learning styles, needs, and outcomes.
  • Maintain records of participant progress and certifications.
  • Continuously update training materials to reflect feedback from sites plus the latest advancements in process, technology, and industry standards to improve overall program outcomes.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages professional growth, feedback, and continuous improvement.

  • Design and develop comprehensive technical training programs according to contractual requirements.
  • Instruct technical teams on BESS control systems, power conversion systems, and energy management systems.
  • Emphasize safe handling, operation, and emergency response procedures related to BESS installations, including fire safety and electrical safety.
  • Work closely with customers to understand their goals and challenges, tailoring solutions to meet their future specific training or service requirements.
  • Upselling and Cross-Selling: Identify opportunities to upsell or cross-sell additional products or services that can benefit the customer.

  • What You Will Bring to Fluence
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field or extensive equivalent work experience.
  • Proven experience as a Technical Trainer, Customer Success Manager, or similar role, with /or at least 10-15 years of electrical engineering background in power conversion, substations, or control systems, ideally with experience in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
  • Ability to simplify complex technical concepts for diverse audiences, including technical teams, customers, and operations staff.
  • Exceptional presentation and delivery skills, with confidence in both classroom and one-on-one training environments.
  • High level of patience, empathy, and the ability to foster a positive learning environment.
  • Advanced digital technology skills in order to transition easily into a training role, which will encompass e-learning, mobile training, and other digital platforms (if you do not have actual training experience).
  • Permanent Australian work rights (unrestricted)

  • Professional Certifications (desired)
  • Training Qualifications such as CTT+ (Certified Technical Trainer) would be an advantage.
