About the role
We’re looking for a Claims Manager, Specialty to join our growing EBI (Equipment Breakdown Insurance) & Energy practice team!
What you'll do here:
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the EBI & Energy team to ensure results produced meet team, department, corporate, Provincial and regulatory standards and goals; provide regular feedback to leadership on results.
- Achieve essential business goals and meet customer service expectations.
- Act as claims authority within areas of expertise and provide direction on such issues as file handling, policy interpretation, legal and technical issues or concerning large losses. Settle large or complex claims within own authority or escalate as necessary.
- Continually assess and improve workflows to ensure efficiency. This includes responding to and partnering with internal and external contacts regarding issues affecting them and ensuring smooth relationships between the group and other stakeholders.
- Work closely with your Director of Claims to develop strategies (including training strategies), long term and short-term plans to facilitate ongoing work, process improvement, customer relations and other functions.
- Monitor financial performance and productivity and report observations, progress, and recommendations to key stakeholders.
- Provide your expertise on claims matters including policy interpretation, liability and quantum determination, and settlement negotiation.
- Maintain work-product (inter alia claims adjudication, file management and communications with internal and external stakeholders) quality control of high standards.
- Lead and actively contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and ensure utilization of tools and behaviours to foster critical thinking and innovation around problem solving.
- Completion of monthly file reviews and audits, identify opportunities and develop action plans.
- Provide effective leadership, responsible for hiring and terminations, coaching and mentoring, performance management, continuous learning and career development for your team of claims file handlers.
What you bring to the table:
- Experience with or exposure to Specialty Insurance Claims (Equipment Breakdown, Property within Energy segment, and/or Commercial Property is an asset)
- Excellent claims technical skills with a deep understanding of insurance coverage issues.
- Proven leadership skills with experience coaching and mentoring.
- Excellent customer, communication, and interpersonal skills – you can relate to anyone!
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
- University Degree or any combination of training and experience deemed relevant for the role.
- A minimum of 5 years of management, coaching and mentoring experience preferred.
- Mechanical, Structural, Electrical Engineering or Accounting experience preferred.
- Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation preferred.

Salary of the successful candidate will typically be positioned between the following range, taking into consideration a number of factors including prior experience, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, location and internal equity:
$120,400.00 - $180,600.00
